Salary Range: T3 Level 5 $102000 - $120000 per year. The final compensation for this position will be determined based on individual factors including education qualifications experience and internal equity.

The Opportunity
The Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) is seeking a Specialist Data & Business Process to join its talented team of professionals in the Regulatory Applications (RA) Branch. This new and exciting opportunity will help shape how Regulatory Applications uses data strengthens and capitalizes on process improvement advances automation and applies emerging digital tools to move important work forward. This is not a traditional data analyst or IT role it is a business-facing opportunity working closely with Regulatory Applications teams to connect data processes systems and regulatory work to identify opportunities and support branch-wide improvements.
You will play a key role in strengthening data stewardship improving data quality and accessibility and turning operational information into clear insights that support credible risk-informed and evidence-based regulatory decision making. This role is well suited to someone who enjoys solving practical business problems connecting data to decision-making and helping teams adopt better tools workflows and practices that create lasting value for Regulatory Applications and the broader AER.
What your day-to-day will look like:
Foster and develop data stewardship by strengthening data governance and improving data integrity quality and accessibility using your expertise and capacity to meet current and future business needs.
Turn data into meaningful insight by building and maintaining reports dashboards visualizations and analytics that help Regulatory Applications understand trends monitor performance and make informed operational and regulatory decisions.
Partner with branch subject matter experts to understand business challenges map current and future processes and deliver practical improvements that make work more consistent efficient and effective.
Help move the branch forward by developing and supporting automation and AI-enabled solutions that reduce manual effort strengthen data readiness and quality controls and promote responsible use of digital tools.
Use your understanding of AER systems branch processes data sources and reporting structures to connect how information moves through the business and identify opportunities to improve how work gets done.
Build strong relationships across Regulatory Applications and partner teams by translating complex data process and system information into clear advice that helps stakeholders adopt better practices procedures and tools.
What were looking for in you:
Bachelors degree in business intelligence data analytics data science or a related field.
5 years of relevant experience in business intelligence.
You bring strong knowledge of data governance business intelligence reporting analytics process improvement workflow optimization and related tools such as Excel Access SQL Tableau Power BI Cognos FME Python SharePoint Power Automate or similar tools.
You understand AER regulatory processes systems data sources and how application data supports decisions reporting strategic priorities and responsible AI adoption.
You enjoy solving complex problems across data processes systems and stakeholder needs and can turn analysis into clear recommendations reporting and practical business insights.
You can work independently manage small projects or branch processes identify inefficiencies document workflows and help implement improvements that support operational priorities.
You are a clear communicator and relationship builder who can explain complex data process and system information and influence adoption of improved practices procedures and tools.
