Position Overview
This position is accountable for supervising operating and maintaining the districts Communication Center;coordinating all phases of the bureaus intelligent transportation system (ITS) and other computer systemsincluding their hardware and software that work to provide a safe and efficient highway system to the maximumbenefit of the traveling public throughout all counties of the district; assisting with operation and management ofthe districts Asset Management Program (AMP) and Environmental Management Information System (EMIS);assisting in monitoring the districts operating budget; and assisting the districts duty officers which includes oncall24/7 response.
Essential Functions
- Ensures that the Communication Center is adequately staffed after-hours calls are satisfactorilyhandled and the radio system for the district is properly serviced and maintained which includes theradios in vehicles portable radios and facility radios.
- Provides in-house expertise needed for the safe effective and optimal operations of the district intelligent transportation system (ITS) and components.
- Assists the Services and Development Chief and the Budget and Facilities Manager in approving and monitoring purchasing activities including Request for Requisitions Order for Deliveries Buyer Certifications and Specific Contracts.
- Assists in the operations and supervision of all aspects of the Asset Management Program (AMP) system including all data user support training system support/coordination and system improvements.
- Assists in the operations and supervision of all aspects of the Environmental Management Information System (EMIS) including all data environmental report user support training system support/coordination and system improvements.
- Assists in the preparing monitoring and adjusting of budget activities for the district Bureau of Operations to ensure compliance with district and departmental goals rules and regulations.
- Enters bills and invoices into the Operations Asset Management (OAM) system.
- Assists in the monitoring of salt ordering and maintenance of those records.
- Assists in developing and executing plans and contracts for team section facility maintenance andrepair.
- Assembles cost reports and records for emergency operations of natural disasters to obtainreimbursement of state and federal funds.
- Develops new procedures for monitoring Operations needs.
- Coordinates the Bureau of Operations Geographic Information System (GIS) map updates for snow removal and other facilities.
- Coordinates messages to be displayed on the districts overhead message boards.
- Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a mannerconducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology pre-engineering or a job related technical/science curriculum PLUS five years of engineering experience; OR Seven years of engineering experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Four years of engineering technician experience in performing a variety of technical activities of whichat least two years should be related to civil engineering.
- Strong oral and/or written communication skills.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires to be on-call 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
- Requires successful completion of a background screening.
