The Senior Staff Accountant Role


Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and lead Review and Audit engagements from planning through completion.
  • Preparation of compilation engagements and corporate tax returns
  • Coordinate client information requests and communicate engagement progress with the firms managers and partners.
  • Identify opportunities to improve client processes and recommend value-added accounting tax and business solutions to clients and internal team members.
  • Maintain complete organized and accurate working paper files in accordance with firm policies and professional standards.
  • Accurately record billable time and assist with engagement planning and workflow management.
  • Stay current with changes to accounting standards tax legislation and industry best practices through ongoing professional development.
  • Contribute to firm initiatives process improvements and the promotion of a collaborative high-performing team environment.



Knowledge and Skills

  • CPA DESIGNATION IS A REQUIREMENT FOR THIS POSITION with membership in good standing with CPA Ontario.
  • Minimum three years of recent public accounting experience with experience specific to participating in Review and Audit Engagements.
  • Thorough knowledge of Canadian accounting and auditing standards as well as Canadian income tax legislation.
  • Experience with common accounting software such as: Caseware CCH Tax Prep QuickBooks and Sage 50 and MS Office Suite.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities deadlines and client engagements simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to clients and colleagues.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment.
  • High level of professionalism integrity and sound judgment.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate high-quality work.
  • Shows able leadership abilities and willingness to grow their role at the firm.

Today VaAPC is a team of 30 located in downtown Ottawa that provides advisory services on complex matters estate planning mergers and acquisitions and corporate restructuring.
