Project Overview
A large public sector organization is seeking a Senior Data Architect to support enterprise data initiatives under a major data transformation program. The role focuses on advancing a unified data strategy through initiatives such as enterprise data integration crosswalk frameworks and modern data platform enablement.
The organization is implementing a Data Fabric / Data Mesh architecture across cloud and on-premise environments to manage govern and deliver high-value data assets. These assets include analytical models dashboards and data services that support policy analytics and legislative functions.
This role will provide architectural leadership to ensure data assets are scalable secure interoperable and aligned with enterprise standards while enabling data-driven decision-making.
Role Overview
The Senior Data Architect will lead enterprise data architecture guide data product development and support the evolution of a Data Centre of Excellence. This role requires deep expertise in modern data platforms cloud technologies and data governance along with strong stakeholder engagement and leadership skills.
Key Responsibilities
Architecture & Strategy Leadership
Lead enterprise and solution architecture for data platforms and AI-enabled data products
Design scalable data solutions across cloud and hybrid environments (e.g. Azure Snowflake Cloudera)
Define enterprise data models architecture standards and best practices
Translate business requirements into secure scalable architecture solutions
Provide thought leadership in data management analytics and AI-driven architectures
Data Platform & Product Enablement
Design and deliver data products within Data Fabric/Data Mesh frameworks
Implement data integration linkage and crosswalk frameworks
Establish data quality metadata management and governance frameworks
Develop semantic layers and reusable data models
Build and validate proof-of-concept solutions including AI-driven use cases
Stakeholder Engagement & Advisory
Facilitate workshops discovery sessions and stakeholder discussions
Provide architectural recommendations to leadership and delivery teams
Present solutions to senior stakeholders and governance bodies
Build consensus across technical and business teams
Governance Standards & Innovation
Define and promote best practices in data governance and secure data sharing
Support cloud adoption and data modernization initiatives
Documentation for integration patterns semantic layers and data frameworks
Regular status reports and project updates
Work Arrangement
100% remote within Canada
Occasional onsite meetings in Alberta (if required)
Travel and related expenses are not reimbursed
Candidate must provide their own equipment
Standard working hours: 08:15 16:30 (Alberta Time) MondayFriday
Mandatory Qualifications
Candidates must meet one of the following:
Degree 6 years of Data Architect experience
Diploma 8 years of experience
Certificate 9 years of experience
OR 10 years of relevant experience
Required Experience:
5 years in data architecture and enterprise solution design
5 years in data integration system architecture and deployment processes
5 years working across multiple architecture domains (data application security etc.)
5 years designing complex systems in large enterprise environments
3 years experience communicating complex data concepts to stakeholders
Nice-to-Have Skills
Experience with cloud data platforms (Snowflake Azure Cloudera)
Data Fabric / Data Mesh architecture experience
AI/ML MLOps and advanced analytics architectures
Data migration and legacy modernization
API design data integration and semantic layer development
Experience with enterprise architecture frameworks (TOGAF Zachman etc.)
Data governance security and privacy frameworks
Public sector experience
Experience with Responsible AI practices (bias detection explainability etc.)
