School Age Support Worker

BGC Central Vancouver Island is seeking an empatheticskilled and dedicated School Age Support Worker (SASW) to join our team this role you will use your knowledge of child development andpositive behavior support to help children with unique needs fully integrateplay and thrive alongside their peers.

Whats in it for you

• Wage: $23.50 - $25.00 per hour (ineligible for ECE Wage Enhancement)
• Hours: Part-Time Contract Monday - Friday (Shifts scheduled between 7:00am and 5:30pm). Additional hours may be available during non-instructional days.
• Location: Parksville BC.

* This position is dependent upon Supported Child Development employment in this position is subject to the continuation andavailability of this funding.

About the Role

The School Age Support Worker (SASW) supports the inclusionparticipation and belonging of children with additional support needs within aschool-age program. The position provides individualized support whilecontributing to an inclusive safe and supportive program environment whereall children have opportunities to participate meaningfully.

The role requires a strong understanding of middle childhooddevelopment age-appropriate communication strategies peer mediationsocial-emotional development emotional regulation and positive behavioursupport. The SASW supports children to participate in program activities androutines while developing independence life skills social skills andself-regulation.

The SASW provides individualized care guidance and supportbased on the strengths and identified needs of each child and in accordancewith established support and/or safety plans. Children supported may havediverse developmental behavioural communication social-emotional or othersupport needs. The SASW works collaboratively with the program team to promoteinclusion and provides consistency through responsive relationshipspredictable routines clear expectations environmental adaptations andpositive behaviour support strategies.

Duties and Responsibilities

Program Planning and Implementation:

• Support the inclusion participation and belonging ofchildren with additional support needs within the overall school-age program.
• Support children in developing daily living skillssocial-emotional skills communication conflict resolution independence andself-regulation using developmentally appropriate and positive supportstrategies.
• Implement individualized strategies and accommodationsidentified in support and/or safety plans which may include visual supports assistive technology sensory orself-regulation tools environmental adaptations and communication strategies.
• Support all children within the program and contribute to ahigh-quality inclusive environment while providing individualized supportbased on identified needs and established plans.
• Observe and respond to childrens individual strengthsneeds and progress adapting activities routines and approaches withinestablished plans to promote successful participation.
• Recognize and respond appropriately to situations that maypose a risk to the safety or well-being of a child peers staff or othersfollowing established support plans safety procedures and organizationalprotocols.
• Administer medication in accordance with Child CareLicensing requirements established care plans and organizational policies andprocedures.
• Support childrens physical and emotional well-being whilepromoting dignity choice independence and developmentally appropriateautonomy.
• Follow all applicable Child Care Licensing requirements andorganizational policies procedures and safety practices.

Administration and Collaboration:

• Contribute to the development and review of individualizedsupport behaviour support medical and/or safety plans in collaboration withprogram leadership families and relevant professionals as appropriate.
• Implement established plans consistently and provideobservations and feedback to support ongoing review and adjustment.
• Monitor and document relevant observations progressstrategies and outcomes and communicate appropriate information to programstaff families and the care team.
• Complete required documentation including daily recordsprogress notes incident reports injury reports and other records accuratelyand within required timelines.
• Participate actively in team meetings planning discussionsand communication necessary to support consistent and inclusive practice.
• Develop and maintain collaborative relationships withchildren families program staff school personnel community agencies andother professionals involved in supporting the child as appropriate.

Qualifications

Education

• Community Support Worker (CSW) Certificate Child and YouthCare (CYC) Diploma/Degree or Behavioral Interventionist (BI) trainingpreferred (an equivalent combination of education and experience will beconsidered).
• Valid First Aid/CPR certificate approved by Community CareFacilities Licensing.
• A criminal record check will be conducted; no applicableconvictions will be permitted.

Experience - Preferred

• Experience working in a licensed school-age care facilityout-of-school care (OSC) program or youth center preferred.
• Demonstrated experience working with school-age children(ages 512) who have diverse physical cognitive emotional or behavioralsupport needs.
• Experience engaging with culturally diverse populations andaddressing unique community needs.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

• Fire Extinguisher Training
• Well-developed oral written and interpersonalcommunication skills
• Knowledge of Early Childhood Development

Working Conditions

• This position will be exposed to a high level of noise anddistractions from children. Direct delivery may include moderate physicalactivity involving walking standing bending and lifting at meetings conferences and other events may be required.
