Release Engineer – RHEL Migration Platform Modernization

Were looking for a hands-on Release Engineer with deep Red Hat Enterprise Linux experience to support an enterprise infrastructure modernization initiative focused on migrating environments from RHEL7 to RHEL9. The ideal candidate brings strong platform engineering depth across containerization CI/CD automation and security remediation - this is not a support or administration role.

What youll do

• Execute migration of applications and services from RHEL7 to RHEL9 resolving binary compatibility and library dependency issues
• Build and compile open-source packages from source code and manage the full lifecycle of RPM packages
• Refactor legacy container workflows from Docker to Podman and support migration to RHEL9 Universal Base Images
• Architect and maintain Rancher-managed Kubernetes environments
• Develop and maintain Jenkins pipelines using Groovy shared libraries
• Build automation tools and API integrations using Python to support scalable CI/CD pipelines
• Review vulnerability scan reports remediate identified CVEs and ensure compliance with RHEL9 security standards
• Maintain secure software supply chain practices and enforce security hardening across the platform

What you bring

• 5 to 7 years of overall experience in Linux or platform engineering environments
• 5 years of strong hands-on experience in RHEL administration engineering and modernization including RHEL9 exposure
• Solid Linux administration and troubleshooting skills
• Python development and scripting experience
• Groovy scripting experience for Jenkins DSL
• Hands-on experience with Docker Podman Kubernetes and Rancher
• Strong Jenkins CI/CD pipeline experience
• Experience with Make CMake and GCC build systems
• Proven experience with vulnerability remediation and security hardening
• Experience with Ansible for large-scale OS configuration
• Eligibility for a mandatory background check

Nice to have

• Experience supporting large-scale enterprise RHEL migration programs
• Familiarity with secure software supply chain frameworks
• Prior exposure to client-facing platform engineering roles

Work setup

• Hybrid in Calgary AB - 3 days onsite per week
• In-person interview at the client location is mandatory
• 6 month contract
• English proficiency required
