PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

In this position you will assess service risks from bridge inspection results and observed field will recommend investment priorities to address bridge conditions as observed during bridge inspection and bridge capacity/ratings within bridge multi-year plan. This position is headquartered out of Calgary Alberta or Toronto Ontario. You will be required to travel 75% with company provided hotel accommodations and meals. POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Ensure on-time completion of scheduled periodic underwater and emergency railroad bridge and culvert inspections in accordance with CPKC requirements FRA regulations and Transport Canada safety guidelines
• Accompany Bridge Inspectors and Bridge Inspection Vehicle Operators during annual bridge inspections to ensure quality and compliance with applicable inspection standards
• Complete monthly safety testing and evaluations for CPKC and contractor employees
• Ensure field conditions identified during annual bridge inspections are addressed and prioritized through appropriate division-level action plans including periodic inspections and basic bridge component maintenance
• Balance risk and cost for bridge work based on asset condition lifecycle and operational priorities
• Create and maintain multi-year plans for bridge and culvert construction including validation of inspection results related to potential capital investment
• Make recommendations regarding bridge inspection maintenance construction priorities dimensional clearance capacity reviews and timetable restrictions
• Train and qualify new bridge inspectors in accordance with applicable CPKC Red Book Requirements and the CPKC Bridge Management Program
• Audit bridge inspections and bridge construction work for compliance with CPKC Red Book Requirements and applicable regulatory standards
• Coordinate update and maintain bridge and culvert asset databases and direct the assignment use and operation of Bridge Inspection Vehicles

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering required with coursework in structural engineering or construction preferred; Professional Engineer (.) licensure required
• Minimum 5 years of experience in railroad bridge design inspection maintenance or construction
• Valid drivers license required; possession of a valid Canadian passport preferred
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders
• Ability to interact with Division Engineers Structures Managers and Structures Supervisors to support effective management of bridge inspection and maintenance programs
• Willingness and ability to participate in an on-call emergency response schedule work at elevated heights and in confined spaces and wear required protective equipment including fall protection personal flotation device hard hat and hearing protection

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

Medical and Drug Testing

This is a safety sensitive position and a successful pre-employment medical assessment including physical vision hearing and a negative company drug test is required. Post hire qualification drug testing may also be required.

Management Conductor Program

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
