Located about 140 kilometers east of Saskatoon Saskatchewan Jansen is set to become one of the largest and most sustainable potash mines in the world. At approximately US$15.3 billion investment it marks the biggest private investment in Saskatchewans history and a bold step forward for BHP in Canada.
Beyond its scale Jansen will create lasting value for people and communities. The project is expected to support approximately 5500 jobs during construction and around 900 permanent roles once production begins.

As Principal Risk Business Partner you will work closely with Asset and Project GRIA relevant functions and GBS to ensure alignment with the BHP Risk Management Global Standard. You will support both the transition from Project to Operating Asset and development of Jansen Stage 2 through uplifting BHP Risk Management knowledge and capability elevating the quality and discipline of risk activities and converting portfolio risk themes into actionable strategies that enhance safety performance and long-term resilience. A critical aspect of this role is the ability to understand the risk-related needs and priorities of the Asset and tailor your approach and capabilities to meet those needs at the right time
In this role you will:
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of the BHP Risk Management framework including best practices procedures tools roles and responsibilities.
- Provide risk insight oversight challenge and support to the first line to maintain effective risk management control performance and implementation of the Group Risk Architecture.
- Uplift risk capability and culture across the Asset and Project through coaching training and targeted interventions.
- Contribute to evaluate and prioritize risk improvement opportunities and monitor the implementation of associated action plans.
- Leverage the BHP Operating System (BOS) to embed risk management into operational and functional routines drive continuous improvement strengthen problem solving and support risk-informed decision making.
- Collaborate across the Asset Project and RBP network to provide globally consistent risk advice share best practices and incorporate local insights and perspectives into regional and global reporting intelligence and risk initiatives.
- Leverage your open and collaborative style to facilitate cooperation and influence across the asset.
- Support Global functions in the development of global or regional risks.
You are an experienced risk leader who thrives in complex environments and can influence decisions through trusted advice sound judgement and strong business partnerships.
You will bring:
- Demonstrated ability to identify key / critical working relationships within and across teams and promote the effective development of these relationships.
- Experience leading change management activities for moderate complexity change.
- Effective stakeholder management and communication skills with the ability to build trust challenge constructively and drive action through influence rather than authority.
- Ability to drive integration in planning and execution across functional boundaries.
- Strong understanding of the role of risk management in growing and protecting value.
- Experience in risk management in an operational environment with knowledge of professional standards (ISO31000 COSO RIMS or equivalent).
- Degree in relevant disciplines such as Mining Engineering Finance Business or Risk Management or equivalent knowledge through practical experience.
- Experience in the mining sector (ideally Potash) across operations projects or both.
Downtown Saskatoon office. 40 hours per week. Hybrid working (flexible shared workstations and a combination of office and work from home) is standard for BHP. This position will require regular travel to the Jansen Mine Site.
