Job Summary
Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit including GO Expansion Light Rail Transit routes and major expansions to Torontos subway system to get people where they need to go better faster and easier. Metrolinx is an agency of the Government of Ontario.

This position is responsible for: Carrying out the inspection installation operation inventory records procurement preventive maintenance reports repairs and monitoring of electrical controls systems and equipment.
Shift Information:
- Work Days: Sunday-Wednesday
- Work Hours: 1200-2200
- Off Days: Thursday Friday Saturday
Start Rate (Non-Negotiable): $43.32/hourly

What will I be doing
- Research pricing from various vendors to ensure MX is receiving affordable and fair pricing to repair and/or replace assets
- Provide costing to team leads to have purchase orders created.
- Review and manage work orders assigned including
- Ensure preventive maintenance work orders are LEAN and fulfil legislative requirements
- If identified highlight assets not captured by the Asset Management group to maintain legislative compliance
- Track costs by adding labour hours and attaching copies of receipts for material used
- Preparing follow-up work orders to have noted deficiencies addressed
- Provide a detailed analysis on corrective work orders as to the root cause and corrective actions taken to remedy the problem
- Provide advice with regards to are of knowledge to team leads and managers to enable leaders to have appropriate facts on complex electrical issues in the field.
- Work with ESA (Electrical Safety Authority) to inspect all MX sites review all electrical infrastructure flag electrical hazards and create work orders to have any hazards repaired.
- Log all electrical work completed into the Electrical Safety Authoritys CSS database for future inspection and to update flagged hazards as completed
- Arrange to have the necessary equipment such as aerial lifts delivered to sites either by 3rd party suppliers or by transporting via a towed trailer
- Review DRM (Design Requirements Manual) standards and make recommendations based on real world experience with regards to assets to minimize maintenance costs and provide better value for MX while enhancing the customer experience
- Complete small projects for various internal stakeholders within MX to aid in their ability to secure retail vendors improve the customer experience and avoid hiring costly third-party contractors
- Manage update and troubleshoot the variety of DLC (digital lighting controls) and BAS (Building automation systems) to minimize operating costs while balancing the customer experience
- Support PDT (Project Delivery Teams) and CPGs 3rd party vendors to minimize the potential for delays and cost overruns at stations and facilities.
- Review assets slated for removal and recommend where they can be redeployed elsewhere to expedite repairs and/or reliability of other sites
- Verify that electrical contractors are opening permits and logging those permits and projects into the Electrical Safety Authoritys CSS database for future reference
- Attend project handovers for training and commissioning of new assets and highlight deficiencies ensuring equipment meets DRM standards and will fulfill operational needs.
- Supervise contractors working for other stakeholders to make sure they are working safely and following Metrolinxs safe work procedures and reporting non-compliance to PDTs team leads managers and directors.
- Diagnose repair and upgrade assets andpotential trouble areasthat are frequently reported as defective and takes safe appropriate action including the repair and/or replacement of defective materials and fittingsto increase system reliability and enhance the customer experience.
- Interprets drawings and wiring layout from schematics. Compiles schematics by consultation investigation and trouble-shooting wiring of electrical systems where as-built drawings are not available.
- Completes minor mechanical adjustments and repairs associated with electrical work being assigned.
- Maintains an inventory of commonly used electrical materials and parts. Initiates inventory list for replenishments and extras from approved sources. Prepares requisitions needed for parts components and materials for the Supervisors approval. Completes follow-up and reports on new and improved acquisitions
- Utilizes skills and tools of the trade to implement tasks and directs the technical work of apprentice tradesmen or other semi-skilled helpers.
- Performs other related duties and training as may be assigned.
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need
- Possession of a 309A Electrician Construction and Maintenance good standing with the Ministry of College Training and Universities. Must have a valid Ontario Class G drivers licence and must meet the corporate standard for a good driving record. Must be able to obtain Metrolinx Equipment Operators Permit and trailer towing. Must be able to obtain and maintain First Aid &CPR certifications and other training & certificates that may be required by the different Divisions. Must successfully complete environmental safety and any other training required by corporate policy including Metrolinx Personal Track Safety and CN Contractors Orientation Certificate Forklift & skid steer training. Must complete legislative required Working at Heights Fall Arrest and Aerial Lift training.
- Knowledge of industry practices Lock and Tag out Hot Work Ontario Fire Code Ontario Building Code CSA 282 CSA Z462 and excellent knowledge of the Ontario Electrical Safety code.
- Complete all necessary training required by MX and the individual business units (ie: confined space entry aerial work platform skid steer forklift trailer towing load securement) including any legislative training ensuring the training is up to date and that records of necessary training are kept on the person
- Four years of related experience installing and maintaining various types of lighting HVAC equipment photovoltaic installations emergency generators UPSs pumps and motors. Familiarity with a wide variety of digital lighting controls building automation systems fire alarms and intrusion/access systems. Must have knowledge of pertinent Health and Safety Regulations.
- Excellent organizational interpersonal and customer service skills are a requirement. Ability to engage secondary support groups peer groups customers and management effectively through verbal and written communication on a regular and ongoing basis. Demonstrable analytical problem determination and resolution skills are essential for cost-effective and timely fixes of service faults encountered in the field.
- Ability to use main market share operating systems (eg Windows Linux Apple iOS etc) and continual education for all on-the-job applicable software applications. Also the ability to manage a smartphone.
- Required to lift heavy equipment on a regular basis. Visual concentration is required while driving reviewing drawings working around machinery and live equipment on a regular basis. Work may be performed at heights in confined spaces or in public spaces exposed to customers and may also be subject to noise fumes dust and inclement weather conditions. Particular attention must be paid to ensuring personal safety and that of others in and around the area of work as they are continually working around live equipment. Also required to wear the correct heavy arc flash-rated clothing including during hot and humid weather. Dangers of arc flash incidents while rare are ever present and workers must be vigilant of their situation and the dangers associated with such an incident. Workers also perform on-call duties 24/7 on a rotational basis.
- Working outdoors and at heights during inclement weather
- Remain fit for duty to provide 24/7 emergency on-call response
- Position will be in office approx. 30% and in field approx. 70% of the time.
