Position Information:

Durham College is seeking an experiencedand engaging educator who shares our commitment to quality and student Faculty of Liberal Studies requires a part-time professor to teachTechnical Communication courses within our skilled trades programs in-person atour Whitby campus.

The ideal candidate understands thecommunication demands of technical workplaces and can help students recognizethe connection between effective communication and career success in theelectrical HVAC and related trades this course students developpractical workplace communication skills by creating resumes cover lettersemails workplace correspondence instructions and technical documents whilestrengthening professionalism customer service presentation andemployability skills. Course activities emphasize authentic workplace scenariosthat prepare future trades professionals to communicate effectively withemployers supervisors co-workers customers and industry partners.

Academic starting wages are determined based onqualifications and years of related experience. Upon hire the incumbent willreceive a pay calculation to determine their step placement within the payrange. Part-time professors will be paid on the applicable wage grid whichcurrently ranges from $80.62 through $139.88 per teaching contact hour.

The responsibilities of Durham College Part-Time Professors include but are not limited to:

• Creating a positive learning environment that accommodates students diverse cultural and educational backgrounds and experiences;
  
• Effectively using educational technologies to support learning manage and post grades;
  
• Teaching technical and workplace communication using authentic industry examples and scenarios;
  
• Helping students develop professional communication skills required in skilled trades environments;
  
• Supporting students in developing career readiness through resume preparation professional correspondence networking interview preparation and presentation skills;
  
• Demonstrating the responsible use of generativeAI tools in workplace communication and document preparation.

The ideal candidate will meet or exceed the following qualifications:

• A completed Masters degree in a relevant field is preferred. Individuals with significant professional experience in technical communication workforce training skilled trades education apprenticeship training industry training or technical writing are encouraged to apply.
  
• Recent teaching experience at the post-secondary level. Teaching in and knowledge of Ontarios college system is an asset.
• Experience working with supporting or teaching students in skilled trades apprenticeship engineering technology construction manufacturing energy or technical environments is strongly preferred.
  
• Proven ability to create relevant and engaging learning experiences for career-focused learners using practical hands-on and industry-connected teaching approaches.
  
• Experience participating in industry-led or community-based applied research is an asset.
  
• Demonstrated commitment to putting the student experience first.
  
• Demonstrated use of current technologies to support student learning and the management of grades.
  
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders including students faculty support staff administrators and community stakeholders.
