Job Summary

Summary of Duties

Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centres Momentum Mental Health Program provides specialized mental health assessment and treatment services primarily for injured workers across Ontario who are insured through the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB). The program is dedicated to improving functional psychological and return-to-work outcomes for individuals who have experienced workplace-related mental health injuries. Services include comprehensive interdisciplinary assessments treatment planning follow-up care and evidence-based interventions. The program also provides services to select private-pay patients.

The Occupational Therapist (OT) is an integral member of an interdisciplinary team and is responsible for delivering high-quality assessment treatment and consultation services to individuals with complex mental health conditions including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) mood disorders anxiety disorders substance use disorders and other psychological injuries. The OT applies an occupational lens to assess function identify barriers to recovery and support patients in achieving meaningful participation in work and daily life.

Working collaboratively with psychiatrists psychologists and other healthcare professionals the OT conducts specialized functional cognitive psychosocial and return-to-work readiness assessments contributes to comprehensive interdisciplinary reports and develops evidence-informed clinical recommendations. The OT may also provide individual and group-based treatment interventions aimed at improving functioning enhancing coping strategies and facilitating successful return-to-work outcomes where appropriate. Services are delivered in person at Sunnybrooks Bayview campus and virtually based on patient needs and program requirements.

The successful candidate will play a key role in coordinating care and facilitating clinical discussions with program partners to support seamless patient-centered service delivery. This includes leading and participating in interdisciplinary rounds collaborating with external stakeholders and ensuring continuity of care across the patients recovery journey.

This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the continued growth and development of Sunnybrooks Momentum Mental Health Program while making a meaningful impact on the recovery and well-being of workers experiencing workplace-related mental health injuries. The position operates Monday to Friday and offers opportunities for hybrid work arrangements where operationally feasible.

Qualifications/Skills

  • Must be a current member in good standing and be registered with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO)
  • Experience working with patients with diagnoses of PTSD mood disorders anxiety disorders substance use disorders and various comorbidities.
  • Able to quickly establish supportive therapeutic rapport
  • Strong ability to form concrete clinical recommendations in an interdisciplinary setting through demonstrated leadership and communication skills
  • Experience with supporting individuals through motivational interviewing goal setting and returning to work with graduated return to work plans
  • Experience using measurement-based care when supporting patients/clients to help guide clinical decision-making preferred
  • Experience in facilitating therapeutic groups (DBT and/or CBT preferred)
  • Clinical experience working with First Responders preferred
  • Completion of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) training preferred
  • Certification or current enrollment in Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) preferred
  • Certification and competency in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and Prolonged Exposure (PE) Therapy preferred
  • Experience with third party payers (e.g. WSIB insurers employers) preferred
  • Experience conducting workplace assessment and treatment (cognitive assessments job demands analysis or knowledge of job demands analysis (JDA) or work demands analysis (WDA)) is an asset
  • Experience with program development and evaluation and quality improvement preferred
  • Superior time management organization and prioritization skills in addressing multiple tasks and timelines in a fast-paced environment
  • Effective report-writing and documentation abilities
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
