Job Summary
BGC Martensville is seeking a highly motivated energetic and experienced applicant for a term Nutrition Specialist role at our Martensville Early Learning Centre. This position requires the successful applicant to possess strong organization and planning skills as well experience in childhood nutrition and allergy food preparation.
Position Details
The Nutrition Specialist position is full time 40-hour week (8-hour day) Monday to Friday. The Nutrition Specialists primary responsibility is to work with children and staff in the development of healthy lifestyles and to prepare nutritious meals and snacks for the BGC Martensville Early Learning Centre (90 space centre).
What Youll Do
The Nutrition Specialist when interacting with children will commit to:
- Treat children with respect acceptance and honesty
- Interact with participants in a patient interested understanding and caring manner
- Promote feelings of competency and self-esteem
- Make children and youth feel physically and emotionally safe & secure
- Encourage responsible safe and mutually respectful behavior through positive methods such as role-modeling setting reasonable limits providing choices and recognizing appropriate behavior
- Assist ECEs in guiding inappropriate conduct by using positive guidance and behavior management practices
- Accommodate individual differences and make all children and youth feel equally welcome regardless of gender race culture economic status or ability.
- Engage children in planning activities that provide opportunities to develop and enhance skills based on their needs and wants
The Nutrition Specialist will:
- Ensure the quality of the ELC by adhering to Provincial Licensing Regulations (which includes Health and Fire Regulations) as well as BGC Martensville Policies and Procedures regarding cleanliness menu development and food preparation.
- Work in a team-based environment with BGCM ELC Managers and Staff BGCM Office Staff
- Assist in preparing weekly menus approved by the ELC Business Administrator and/or Pedagogical Lead ensuring Provincial Licensing Standards are met.
- Prepare grocery lists and shop for ingredients and additional supplies as needed on a weekly basis.
- Maintain pantry inventory
- Ensuring all food allergies/dietary restrictions are accounted for in food preparation
- Ensure meals and snacks are prepared in a timely manner and using food safety practices in all food preparation.
- Engage families regarding nutrition practices and cultural preferences
- Involve children in food preparation and routines
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Food Safe Level 1 Certificate
- Early Childhood Education Level I Certificate (preferred not required)
- Commercial kitchen experience (preferred not required)
- Valid First Aid and CPR (within first 3 months of employment)
- Valid drivers license and reliable transportation
- Ability to lift up to 25lbs
- All applicants must be eligible to work in Saskatchewan/Canada.
Employment is conditional upon successful completion of a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.
Compensation
Wage is dependent on experience. Applicants who also possess a valid early childhood education certification from Saskatchewan may be eligible for an additional wage top up of 5.85-8.85 dollars per hour.
