Are you a people person with a passion for health wellness and community The City of Edmonton is looking for energetic ambassadors to join our Community Culture and Recreation team!

As a Member Experience Liaison you will be the face of our facilities ensuring every visitor feels welcome informed and safe. Whether you are providing a tour of our state-of-the-art fitness centres or helping coordinate a drop-in basketball game your goal is to inspire active living and foster a positive environment for all. Join us in building a vibrant healthy city where every community member can this role you will maintain a high level of visibility across various dryland amenities including fitness centres gymnasiums and indoor playgrounds. You will serve as a primary point of contact engaging patrons in conversation to promote facility memberships programs and services. Beyond promotion you play a vital role in facility safety by providing education on equipment use enforcing amenity etiquette and responding to emergency situations.

What will you do

  • Act as a facility ambassador by proactively engaging with patrons to promote programs services and the benefits of an active lifestyle.
  • Provide facility orientations and tours to new and existing members.
  • Manage gymnasium spaces by setting up equipment for drop-in programs and ensuring fair play and sports etiquette among participants.
  • Monitor fitness centres to ensure equipment is in good working order reset spaces for the next user and report any maintenance deficiencies.
  • Educate patrons on the safe and effective utilization of equipment and adherence to facility guidelines.
  • Respond to emergencies and provide first aid assistance when required coordinating with emergency services as needed.
  • De-escalate patron concerns and manage behaviors to maintain a safe and inclusive environment.
  • Other related duties
  • Completion of a High School Diploma or GED

Assets:

  • Valid Standard First Aid CPR Level C and AED certification
  • Completion or in-process degree or diploma in Physical Education Kinesiology Recreation Education Communications Personal Fitness Training or other related subject matter
  • Previous experience working in a municipal recreation or fitness facility environment
  • Background in sports coaching fitness instruction or community engagement

  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic team-oriented environment alongside various outcome areas
  • Proven ability to make independent decisions and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced setting
  • Confidence in responding to and managing emergency scenarios
  • Alignment to our Cultural Commitments and Leadership Competencies ( a culture of equity diversity reconciliation and inclusion

Conditions of Employment:

  • Hire is dependent on Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton and there may be a cost associated with this requirement
  • Candidates will be required to arrange their own transportation and where appropriate will be reimbursed in accordance with City of Edmonton policy.
  • Ability to work a variety of shifts including evenings and weekends
  • Possession of current Standard First Aid CPR-C and AED certifications
  • Applicants may be tested

Work Environment:

  • This position is physically active requiring constant standing walking and the ability to lift up to 20 lbs regularly (with occasional lifting up to 50 lbs)
  • Work is performed primarily in indoor recreation environments which may be noisy or humid
  • This is a public-facing role and requires engagement and interaction with diverse people from various backgrounds with different needs expectations and emotional states
  • Note: Due to the nature of this work this position is not eligible for a hybrid work arrangement
  • The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance
  • Shift work requirements - Evening and Weekend work is required
