Job Description:

Primary Purpose

Reporting to the Supervisor Mechanical Services the Steamfitter position is responsible for performing skilled steamfitter work associated with the installation inspection trouble-shooting maintenance and repair of steam distribution systems on campus.

Responsibilities will align with the Plant Operations goal of contributing towards providing a safe and accessible invitingly clean and comfortable functionally-enriched and well-maintained campus environment through service excellence.

Key Accountabilities

Operations

• Performs regular preventative maintenance on all steam system devices including thorough inspection and repair of steam traps

• Repairs steam condensate heating and ventilation systems

• Installs and/or replaces piping

• Identifies system problems and determines organizes and executes the required action to keep the steam system functioning

• Reads and interprets blueprints and drawings makes accurate material takeoffs and writes summary reports of condition assessment surveys when necessary.

• Estimating costs of new installations and repairs

• Able to organize and execute multi trade projects

• In consideration of the Universitys commitment to the safety and well-being of all faculty support staff students and visitors responsible for ensuring University facilities and departmental activities are compliant with all applicable legislation regulations codes and standards related to facilities operations as well as occupational health and environmental safety.

• Performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned and supports departmental activities

• Work cooperatively with other trades service providers and contractors

Required Qualifications

Education

• Current Ontario Certificate of Qualification as a Steamfitter (307A)

• Additional related qualifications such as Plumber Pipefitter Millwright or Welder are an asset

Experience

• Five (5) years of experience within the Steamfitter trade service and troubleshooting background preferred.

• Work experience within a major institutional sector(s) such as education medical/hospital or related construction industry preferred

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

• Demonstrated proficiency in the installation alteration troubleshooting maintenance and repair of steam systems up to 210PSI

• Demonstrated and in-depth understanding of all related tools and shop equipment.

• Ability to read and understand steam and mechanical system drawings

• Must be customer and team oriented able to work independently as well as in a group /team environment

• Must possess and maintain a valid Ontario class G drivers license
