Masters of Social Work (MSW) Perinatal and Paediatrics

The Social Worker is a key member of the multidisciplinary team and provides treatment modalities that may include individual and family therapy group work consultation case navigation crisis intervention community outreach and advocacy in a manner that is consistent with the Quinte Health values and that reflects the core values of Patient and Family Centered Care (dignity respect information sharing participation and collaboration). Social Workers at Quinte Health practice in accordance with the standards of professional practice and ethical values as defined by the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers participates in service and hospital-wide activities and programs that model and promote a safe and healthy patient-centered environment and contribute to quality improvement and risk management initiatives. Develops and coordinates treatment plans in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team including connection/referral to appropriate internal and/or community resources this position is assigned to the Quinte 7 Perinatal and Paediatrics Program.

Masters Degree in Social Work
Active registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW).
5 years clinical work experience in a related setting.
Demonstrated assessment and therapy skills with expertise in individual couple family and group work required.
Experience in conducting psychosocial assessment de-escalation and brief psychosocial interventions.
Knowledge of relevant legislation and community resources.
Demonstrated ability to function independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Superior communication skills required oral and written.
Must have a satisfactory Criminal Record / Vulnerable Sector Check.

Demonstrated knowledge of perinatal mood and anxiety disorders including diagnostic criteria assessment and treatment. Provides counselling for perinatal anxiety depression mood disorders postpartum adjustment and supports the development of healthy parentchild relationships.
Highly developed clinical skills in interviewing psychosocial and risk assessment treatment planning and therapeutic interventions including individual group and family counselling crisis intervention and interprofessional collaboration.
Knowledge of assessment harm reduction and management of substance use addiction and concurrent disorders with demonstrated sensitivity to stigma experienced by individuals with psychiatric diagnoses.
Demonstrated knowledge of relevant legislation including the Health Care Consent Act Substitute Decisions Act Personal Health Information Protection Act Child Youth and Family Services Act Surrogacy and All Families Are Equal Act Ontario Mental Health Act Powers of Attorney Act and other applicable legislation.
Skilled in conducting comprehensive assessments establishing goals developing implementing and reviewing care and discharge plans in collaboration with patients families and the interprofessional team. Connects patients and families to appropriate community support (e.g. financial housing home care) and maintains documentation in accordance with privacy legislation OCSWSSW standards and organizational policies.
Provides emotional support counselling crisis intervention and advocacy for individuals and families experiencing traumatic births pregnancy loss stillbirth neonatal death acute or chronic pediatric health diagnoses and medical crises and facilitates access to appropriate community resources.
Identifies assesses and intervenes in situations involving abuse neglect or domestic violence ensuring appropriate services are engaged and that safety and discharge plans are in place.
Knowledge of surrogacy legislation and practice in Ontario providing psychosocial education and support to surrogates and intended parents supporting expectation management during the hospital stay and ensuring alignment with ethical and legal requirements.
Demonstrated ability to serve Indigenous and 2SLGBTQIA communities using trauma-informed strengths-based culturally safe and humble approaches. Advocates for equitable access to inclusive care works to reduce systemic barriers and supports patients rights to define their own families and birth experiences.
Integrates evidence-based best practices into professional services.
Demonstrates strong communication skills and confidence in articulating social work scope of practice within a health care setting.
Works effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and in collaboration with external agencies and community partners.
Highly developed communication presentation documentation mentoring and coaching skills with strong organizational and time-management abilities.
Maintains effectiveness in a physically and mentally demanding work environment responds appropriately to unexpected situations and adapts to competing priorities.
Proficient in the use of current Microsoft Office applications and electronic documentation systems.
Maintains privacy confidentiality and security of client staff and organizational information.
Initiates and maintains community partnerships and contributes to a workplace culture of mutual respect and collaboration.
