About the role.

Established in 1961 Valley Farms Ltd. is the corporate farm of McCain Foods Ltd. operating potato farming operations in Florenceville and Grand Falls New Brunswick. Valley Farms produces potatoes on 5400 acres (2185 hectares) using a three-year crop rotation with approximately 1800 acres (728 hectares) planted annually.

The Manager Valley Farmsis accountable for the overall performance of the Florenceville farming operation ensuring the safe efficient and sustainable production and storage of approximately 1000 acres of potatoes to support McCains manufacturing operations. This role provides leadership across farm operations people development agronomy equipment management financial performance and regenerative agriculture initiatives while advancing McCains 2030 sustainability and growth strategy. The successful candidate will drive operational excellence through innovation technology adoption continuous improvement and strong partnerships with growers industry stakeholders and internal teams.

What youll be doing.

  • Lead all aspects of farm performance balancing safety quality productivity yield cost sustainability and people outcomes.
  • Foster and maintain a strong safety culture while ensuring compliance with company policies regulatory requirements and safe work practices.
  • Lead coach develop and engage full-time seasonal and temporary employees across all farm operations.
  • Build workforce plans aligned with seasonal farming cycles including planting crop maintenance harvesting storage and off-season activities.
  • Execute McCains 2030 strategy by establishing goals communicating expectations and driving team performance.
  • Manage annual operating budgets forecasts productivity targets and cost control initiatives.
  • Monitor key farm financial drivers including labor seed fertilizer crop protection fuel repairs equipment utilization storage costs and crop performance.
  • Oversee all operational and agronomic practices related to crop planning production monitoring storage and delivery.
  • Lead the adoption of regenerative agriculture practices that improve soil health biodiversity water stewardship nutrient efficiency environmental impact and climate resilience.
  • Drive innovation through new variety implementation precision agriculture technologies research trials and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain strong relationships with growers academic institutions industry professionals and internal McCain stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with agriculture quality supply chain and operations teams to ensure delivery schedules quality standards food safety traceability and inventory requirements are achieved.
  • Monitor storage conditions including temperature humidity ventilation sprout control and inspection routines to optimize raw quality and yield.
  • Develop and maintain long-range capital investment plans including capital expenditure proposals that support operational and strategic objectives.

What youll need to be successful.

  • Bachelors degree in Agriculture Agricultural Business Management or equivalent industry experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of commercial agriculture and/or farm operations experience.
  • Strong knowledge of crop production systems regenerative agriculture agricultural sustainability practices machinery and precision agriculture technologies.
  • Experience utilizing modern farm technology platforms including John Deere Operations Center and related digital agriculture tools.
  • Demonstrated success leading innovative projects that deliver measurable operational technical and financial results.
  • Proven leadership experience with the ability to coach motivate and develop diverse teams.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience managing operating budgets forecasting and cost optimization initiatives.
  • Excellent communication presentation collaboration and relationship management skills.
  • Strong analytical problem-solving and computer skills.
  • Self-starter with a results-oriented mindset and strong accountability for performance outcomes.
  • Willingness to learn and effectively utilize McCain systems and technologies.
  • Flexibility to work extended hours during critical seasonal periods including planting and harvest.
  • Valid drivers license required; Class 3 license preferred.
  • Ability to obtain New Brunswick Institute of Agrology (NBIA) designation within three years.
  • Willingness to obtain a provincial pesticide applicators license.

The Manager Valley Farms Florenceville leads a team of full-time seasonal and temporary employees responsible for all aspects of potato production storage equipment operations and farm maintenance. The role works closely with Valley Farms leadership McCain Agriculture teams Supply Chain Quality Operations and external partners including growers academic institutions and industry experts. Together the team is focused on delivering safe sustainable and profitable farming operations while advancing regenerative agriculture practices and supporting McCains growth objectives.
