Reporting to the MaintenanceSupervisor the Maintenance Technician position is responsiblefor the general maintenance operation and repair of Halifax Harbour Bridges(HHB) equipment vehicles buildings bridge structures bridge systemsstreets and properties. The Maintenance Technician position is also responsiblefor winter maintenance and snow removal.
This position is deemed a *safety-sensitiveposition as work is completed in variable weather temperatures and adverseweather conditions working at extreme heights from 170 320 feet above thebridge and in confined spaces below the bridge or in the bridge towers. Acritical accountability is adherence to the HHB Safety standards policies andprocesses. This includes hazard assessments wearing required PersonalProtective Equipment proper access to confined spaces safety observations andbeing able to provide rescue to co-workers as necessary.
Essential Duties andResponsibilities:
Follow HHB safety policies proceduresstandards Safe Work Practices and reporting requirements.
General maintenance operation and repair ofHalifax Harbour Bridges (HHB) equipment vehicles buildings bridgestructures bridge systems streets and properties.
Operate vehicles mid-sized equipment and powertools including trucks towing vehicles ATVS bobcats street sweeperstractors pay loaders cart carriers power lifts and pneumatic tools.
Operate snow removal equipment such as tractorsloaders brine spreaders snowplows snow blowers and salt spreaders to removesnow and ice from bridges streets sidewalks parking lots and other HHBproperties.
General maintenance and operation of vehiclesincluding pre-inspection checks tune-ups and parts replacements oil andgrease changes fluid levels check replacing lights cleaning vehicles tirereplacement and rotation checking tire pressure.
Repair maintain and perform regular inspectionsof equipment and tools to ensure they are in working condition.
Conduct regular checks and safety inspections ofworkplaces diesel generators and fire systems.
Assist in traffic control to close and openlanes as per construction and maintenance requirements.
Complete job-related safety training and skillsdevelopment as required.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
A valid Class 3 NS Drivers License and cleandriving record (Driver Abstract will be required as a condition ofemployment).
Must pass a physical demands assessment and acriminal background check as a condition of employment.
Experience working in a construction environmentor performing work in the construction trades
2 years of experience in a Maintenance orMaintenance-related position.
Able to work in a *safety-sensitive position inadverse weather conditions (rain snow ice) at extreme heights (170-320feet) in direct traffic and in confined spaces.
Able to work in a fast-paced environment withina team or independently with limited supervision.
Able to work in an efficient manner whileproviding excellent customer service and exhibiting pride in quality work.
Punctual and dependable with a can-do attitude.
Assets include:Valid Safety training in FallProtection Confined Space Entry WHMIS and First Aid. If necessary thesecourses will be scheduled by the employer for the successful candidate tocomplete.
This is a Full-time Union positionworking 40 hours per week with a shift schedule overtime and weekends.Over time standby and call-in work will be required based on operationaldemands. The starting hourly wage for this position is $24.81 whichis set by the terms of the collective agreement. Hiring 2 positions.
