Machinist (Journeyman or Apprentice)
Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Machinist (Journeyman or Apprentice) to join our manufacturing team in Edmonton this role you will operate and maintain precision machinery to produce high-quality components according to detailed specifications. - Operate CNC and manual machine tools (lathes mills grinders and related equipment) to manufacture precision components
- Read and interpret technical blueprints drawings and specifications to ensure accurate production
- Measure and inspect finished parts using precision instruments such as calipers micrometers and gauges to verify conformance to tolerance standards
- Set up machines select appropriate cutting tools and adjust speeds and feeds to optimize production efficiency
- Maintain a clean organized and safe work environment in compliance with all safety protocols and regulations
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and perform routine maintenance to minimize downtime
- Document production activities material usage and quality control results accurately
- Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production schedules and quality standards
- Continuously improve machining processes and suggest enhancements to workflow and efficiency
- Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and vernier calipers.
- Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes milling machines shapers or grinders.
- Measure examine and test completed units in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications using precision instruments such as micrometers.
- Set up adjust and operate all of the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools in order to perform precision machining operations.
- Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.
- Study sample parts blueprints drawings and engineering information in order to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products and determine product dimensions and tolerances.
- Select the appropriate tools machines and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work.
- Maintain industrial machines applying knowledge of mechanics shop mathematics metal properties layout and machining procedures.
- Prepare samples according to CSA ASTM and ASME standards & customer requirements.
- Confer with engineering supervisory and manufacturing personnel in order to exchange technical information.
- Responsible for completion of task safety evaluations near miss and hazard reporting as required.
Qualifications :
- Education: a certified journeyperson holding a valid recognized credential
- Certification: Interprovincial Standards Red Seal
- Experience : Beginner - < 2 years experience
- Valid Journeyman Machinist certification (for Journeyman level) or active apprenticeship registration with Alberta (for Apprentice level)
- Proficiency in operating CNC and manual machine tools
- Strong ability to read and interpret technical blueprints and engineering drawings
- Competency with precision measurement tools and quality control instruments
- Knowledge of machining processes cutting tools and material properties
- Familiarity with CAD software and digital machining programs (preferred)
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing work that meets strict tolerance standards
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work safely and follow all workplace safety regulations and procedures
- Problem-solving skills and analytical mindset to troubleshoot technical issues
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
- Physical capability to perform machining duties including standing for extended periods and lifting materials
