Job Summary

Digby General Hospital is actively seeking locum physicians to provide coverage in their Emergency Department during a period of active recruitment.

Digby General Hospital (DGH) historically founded in 1924 provides medical care to residents of the surrounding areas including primary inpatient restorative and ambulatory care as well as day surgery. Located in Digby the 20-bed medical and alternate level of care (ALC) unit works closely with the collaborative emergency center (CEC) in Annapolis Royal and Yarmouth Nova Scotia. DGH also has a 13-bed restorative care unit that supports patients through rehabilitation. 

  • Schedule: The Emergency Department operates on a two-shift schedule with 12-hour shifts and single-provider coverage.
  • Support: The team fosters a collaborative and supportive environment. Locum physicians will be well-supported by a team that truly embodies teamwork and is always available for guidance.

Responsibilities

  • examine patients order diagnostic tests and laboratory procedures
  • advise patients on health care health promotion and disease prevention
  • consult and refer to other medical practitioners
  • act as a patient advocate
  • prescribe and administer medications and treatments inoculations and vaccinations

Compensation is provided by the service and locum physicians are eligible to access the travel elements of the program including reimbursement for kilometrage per diems accommodations (up to $300 per night) and airfare (up to $1500) along with travel time up to 10 hours per week. Licensing fees for CPSNS are covered and locum physicians may claim Facility On Call fees under specific conditions.
