Were looking for a Learning Design Consultant Online Course Development to join our team for a one-year term and help design and develop new online courses across UFreds certificate diploma undergraduate and graduate programs.

Working closely with subject matter experts (SMEs) and internal academic partners youll help take courses from their initial academic framework and assessment design through to developed SME-approved content that is ready for digital production and implementation.

This role is a great fit for someone who brings strong learning design fundamentals enjoys collaborating with faculty and SMEs and is excited to work within a modern streamlined course development environment-including the responsible use of AI-supported development tools.

What youll do
Responsibilities

Course framework and curriculum design

  • Collaborate in structured course design conversations with SMEs to define the course description syllabus course learning outcomes CLO-to-PLO mapping weekly topics and subtopics assessment plan and assessment-to-CLO mapping.
  • Support the translation of program expectations academic standards and level requirements into coherent course frameworks and learning pathways.
  • Review sequencing scope workload learning progression and academic integrity considerations and recommend practical adjustments for assigned courses.
  • Use approved course development templates checklists and design standards when preparing course frameworks for review and approval.

Responsible AI-supported development and academic quality support

  • Use approved AI tools structured workflows and prompt patterns to support the drafting and refinement of learning content examples activities case studies feedback knowledge checks and assessment items.
  • Work closely with SMEs to verify content accuracy currency breadth depth and appropriateness for the intended academic level.
  • Edit organize and refine draft content into learning materials that are clear instructionally effective learner centered and aligned to course outcomes.
  • Apply institutional expectations for responsible AI use copyright privacy bias mitigation and academic quality control.
  • Maintain clear documentation SME decisions review notes approvals and content changes throughout course development.

Online course development and production support

  • Develop and prepare SME approved content using structured course development workflows institutional templates standards and supported development tools.
  • Apply evidence informed online learning practices accessibility requirements and Universal Design for Learning principles in the development and presentation of content activities interactions and assessments.
  • Identify and coordinate requirements for multimedia elements interactions knowledge checks and other course assets to support engagement and academic rigour.
  • Prepare organized approved course content and supporting assets for downstream digital production LMS implementation testing and launch readiness.
  • As assigned support course configuration or development using approved digital authoring tools and templates based on project and operational needs.

Quality review documentation and workflow improvement

  • Conduct course level design alignment accessibility and readiness checks using defined rubrics mapping checks and institutional quality criteria.
  • Incorporate feedback from SMEs and internal stakeholders throughout development to strengthen course quality alignment usability and readiness.
  • Maintain accurate records of design decisions mappings review comments approvals version history and course assets throughout the online course development lifecycle.
  • Contribute practical observations and recommendations to improve course development templates workflows standards documentation and scalable new course development practices.

  • Collaborate with the manager project team and relevant internal partners to identify and resolve development issues that may affect quality timelines or course readiness.

  • Other duties as assigned.

What youll bring

  • A bachelors degree in Education Instructional Design Learning Design Educational Technology Curriculum Studies or a related field.
  • At least two years of recent experience designing and developing online courses within a post-secondary environment or closely comparable adult-learning setting.
  • Experience collaborating with faculty or SMEs to take a course from initial outcomes and assessment design through to developed online learning materials.
  • Working knowledge of course and program outcome alignment including CLO-to-PLO or equivalent mapping and assessment alignment.
  • Experience working within an enterprise Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Knowledge of adult learning online pedagogy assessment design accessibility and Universal Design for Learning.
  • Strong writing and editing skills with an ability to turn complex academic content into clear and effective online learning materials.
  • Strong communication collaboration and project coordination skills with the ability to manage multiple course development deliverables and timelines.
  • A proactive and open approach to using AI tools responsibly to support course development review documentation and quality assurance.

Nice to have

  • Hands-on experience with digital course authoring tools.
  • Experience developing undergraduate graduate certificate diploma or continuing education courses.
  • Experience working within a Canadian university or college particularly in online or distance education.
  • Experience applying accessibility practices and coordinating multimedia or interactive learning assets.
  • Experience working with established digital course development templates and structured development workflows.

Hours of Work
This is a a one year full-time position (35 hours per week) under regular business hours. The position is based in Fredericton NB with the option to work remotely from anywhere in New Brunswick and attend in-person meetings as required.
