• Completion of Bachelor of Laws LL.B Juris Doctor J.D or its equivalent
• Membership with the Law Society of Alberta or ability to attain membership with the Law Society of Alberta immediately upon appointment

Assets:

• Construction litigation and builders liens
• Municipal administrative insurance and bankruptcy and insolvency law

Skills required for success:

• Proven ability to work confidently and effectively manage time under tight constraints
• Political acumen strategic planning issue resolution and sound decision-making skills
• Ability to communicate complex ideas to diverse audiences build positive relationships and establish clear expectations
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a cohesive legal and human resources team

Conditions of employment & work environment:

• Up to: 1 temporary full-time position for up to 11 months
• Hours of work: 36.9 hours per week Monday - Friday
• Salary: $103256.73 - $215071.48 (Annually)
• This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite
• This position is eligible for the EDO program (Earned Day Off)

What will you do

• Represent the City and its employees in legal proceedings before the courts boards and other public forums
• Gather facts through thorough interviews and document review
• Research and skillfully apply the law across diverse factual situations
• Draft clear and effective legal documents
• Provide strategic advice and recommendations for the conduct and successful resolution of cases
• Retain and instruct outside experts across a wide range of specialized areas
• Negotiate and mediate the resolution of complex and adversarial matters
• Proactively provide recommendations and strategies to avoid potential risk and liability
• Research and maintain a comprehensive understanding of the Citys structure policy and procedure
