Reporting to the Senior Director of Industrial Relations you will work with our Senior Industrial Relations Adviser team in applying interpreting and negotiating collective agreements in a rapidly changing environment. You will have prime responsibility for managing collective agreement processes and for improving and/or streamlining such processes. You will act as first point of contact for Human Resources personnel and union representatives.
As part of the Industrial Relations team you will:
- Be the prime person in managing and improving/streamlining collective agreement processes.
- Co-ordinate and administer processes related to grievances and other legal claims as well as documentation management.
- Serve as a key point of contact for Human Resources personnel other corporate departments and union representatives.
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with Human Resources and Industrial Relations staff and union representatives.
- Support the Industrial Relations team on complex file management.
- Co-ordinate special projects to support initiatives within the department.
- Participate in various stages of collective agreement negotiation providing the necessary support and flexibility.
- Attend national and local committees as required. Provide additional support including drafting agendas taking minutes and co-ordinating files with advisers.
- Perform record-keeping digitization and filing duties.
- Be required to travel occasionally to support the Industrial Relations team at committee meetings outside Montreal.
This is a hybrid role with a mix of in-office and remote work. Work arrangements will be discussed with hiring managers per departmental guidelines.
What You Bring:
- Community college diploma in HR administration legal administration or other related field.
- Three (3) or more years experience in human resources industrial relations or legal services.
- Knowledge of employment conditions in a unionized environment along with a general understanding of industrial relations collective agreements and the Canada Labour Code.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in French.
- Intermediate level required in English.
- Strong analytical and research skills.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities in a busy department.
- Ability to handle difficult situations potentially in confrontational environments.
- Creativity to resolve issues and improve processes.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Commitment to confidentiality and ethics.
