Role description:

This role is intended for developing civil designers and technologists who are ready to take ownership of significant project components interact directly with clients and agencies coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and advance toward Senior Designer Senior Technologist or Project Manager career paths. The successful candidate will demonstrate initiative strong communication skills and the ability to independently advance project tasks while working within a collaborative team environment.

Role accountabilities:

POSITION DUTIES

• Under supervision prepare Civil 3D designs and construction drawings for land development projects including grading servicing stormwater management erosion and sediment control.
• Coordinate with engineers planners surveyors landscape architects utility agencies municipalities architects and other disciplines throughout project delivery.
• Participate in client municipal and consultant coordination meetings alongside project managers and senior engineers.
• Develop an understanding of client objectives project constraints and approval requirements to support practical and responsive design solutions.
• Build professional relationships with clients municipal reviewers utility agencies and project stakeholders.
• Participate in projects from preliminary design through municipal approvals detailed design tendering construction and project closeout.
• Conduct site visits and support construction review activities record observations and assist with field investigations.
• Demonstrate initiative in identifying design issues proposing solutions and advancing assigned tasks with limited direction.
• Contribute to technical problem-solving and development of practical design solutions.

• Municipal infrastructure improvements

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop and maintain Civil 3D models and engineering drawings for grading servicing stormwater management and land development projects.
• Independently prepare design drawings grading plans servicing plans stormwater management layouts ESC plans composite utility plans plan and profile drawings and detail sheets.
• Interpret survey information geotechnical recommendations municipal standards servicing requirements and engineering criteria to develop design solutions.
• Design and model:
• Existing and proposed surfaces
• Pipe networks
• Alignments and profiles
• Corridors
• Stormwater management facilities
• Lot grading and site grading systems
• Under supervision complete earthworks calculations quantity takeoffs servicing checks and preliminary design calculations under engineering supervision.
• Coordinate directly with clients municipalities utility agencies and partner consultants regarding project information requests and technical comments.
• Assist in responding to municipal review comments and preparing revised submission packages.
• Proactively identify design conflicts servicing constraints grading challenges and coordination issues before they impact project schedules.
• Take ownership of assigned project components and independently progress work while seeking guidance when appropriate.
• Track action items arising from meetings and coordinate follow-up activities with project team members.
• Review and incorporate redlines from senior staff and assist with quality control reviews.
• Support permit Site Plan Approval Subdivision Condominium and municipal approval submissions.
• Mentor junior designers and technologists on CAD standards Civil 3D workflows and project delivery best practices.
• Support proposal preparation fee estimates and business development activities when opportunities arise.

Qualifications & Experience:

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

AutoCAD / Civil 3D

• Strong Civil 3D capability
• Surface modelling

• Sheet production and project setup

Engineering Fundamentals

• Grading design
• Stormwater drainage systems
• Watermain design principles
• Sanitary sewer design principles

• Hydraulic grade concepts
• Municipal design standards

MUST-HAVE

• Civil Engineering Technology diploma or Civil Engineering degree.
• 3-5 years of relevant land development or municipal infrastructure experience.
• Exposure to Site Plan Approval Subdivision or Condominium projects.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Experience preparing grading and servicing drawings.
• Working knowledge of at least one Ontario/GTA municipal design standard.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings reports technical standards and municipal comments.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple assignments with competing deadlines.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with the confidence to interact professionally with clients municipalities and external consultants.

NICE-TO-HAVE

• Experience with stormwater management design and modelling.
• Experience preparing quantities and construction cost estimates.
• Field review or construction administration experience.
• Experience responding to municipal review comments.

EXPERIENCE

3-5 years of experience in land development municipal engineering or related civil infrastructure design.
