New Afton

Situated 10 kilometers west of Kamloops British Columbia the New Afton mine is an underground gold and copper producing site.

Kamloops is a city of 105000 people located 350 kilometers east of Vancouver. Position Reports To:Industrial Hygienist

Position Overview
The industrial hygiene technician will play a key role in the industrial hygiene program across all departments.

Key Responsibilities

The successful applicant will be responsible for:

• Preparing and calibrating sampling equipment for field use;
• Industrial hygiene sample collection for industrial dusts and vapours;
• Conducting noise assessments;
• Cataloguing hazardous materials on site;
• Data interpretation in relation tolegislative requirements;
• Performing respirator fit testing;
• Data entry and records administration;
• Develop and implement IH/OH programs and initiatives to identify assess and control workplace health hazards;
• Ensure IH/OH efforts reduce risk to people the environment and the organization in alignment with global Occupational Health & Safety strategies;
• Assisting and providing coverage for the Industrial Hygienist when needed;
• The successful candidate will be expected to work afternoon shifts split shifts and weekendson some occasions.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in science or engineering or a two-year diploma in occupational health and safety with air sampling experience;
• Knowledge of occupational health and hygiene;
• Strong computer skills (Microsoft Word Excel PowerPoint);
• Strong interpersonal oral and written communication skills;
• Ability to adapt and manage a busy workload;
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment;
• A commitment to technical excellence;
• Completion of or enrollmentin a post graduate occupational health and safety program is considered desirable.

Preference would be given to candidates with:

• Mining Experience
• 2-3 years experience in a safety oriented role

Other Requirements

Candidates will be required to participate in a comprehensive qualification process including:

• Completion of pre-placement functional screen
• Provide proof of a validdrivers license
• Demonstrate eligibility to work in Canada
• Provide confirmation of valid educational requirements

Compensation

The anticipated salary for this position will be between $68000 to $80000. A comprehensive benefits program and performance bonus plan will also be provided. This is not a camp operation and therefore the successful candidate will be required to relocate to the Kamloops area or travel and accommodation will be the responsibility of the successful applicant.
