About the Opportunity
A practice with a significant Indigenous law group is seeking a lawyer to support Indigenous governments and organizations on governance self-government and institution-building matters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise Indigenous governments and organizations on governance structures and self-government arrangements

  • Draft constitutions laws policies and governance agreements

  • Support negotiations related to self-government and jurisdictional matters

  • Build long-term relationships with Indigenous community clients

  • Collaborate with colleagues across related practice areas (lands resources agreements)

Qualifications

  • Called to the Bar in Ontario or British Columbia in good standing

  • Experience in Indigenous law governance or a closely related field

  • Genuine interest in and sensitivity to working with Indigenous communities

  • Strong drafting and negotiation skills

  • Willingness to travel to community meetings as required
