About the Company
Main Street Project Home Care Services fulfills Objective Two of our five-year plans to increase support for those who are exiting homelessness.
MSP Home Care Service employees ensure that participants who are transitioning out of homelessness live with dignity and are supported in improving their health and wellbeing.

General Home Care Worker Duties:
- Promotes and assists clients in maintaining activities of daily living and selecting instrumental activities of daily living (ADL and select IADL) and in accordance with Home Care operational directives/guidelines/protocols.
- Organizes work according to client needs and assigned tasks.
- Responds to the physical and emotional needs of clients.
- Provides relevant client information to the healthcare team to assist in care planning.
- With additional education and in accordance with regional policies/operational directives/procedures on assignment and delegation may be assigned the following client care tasks:
- Medication Assistance (oral medications suppositories topical medications transdermal medications inhaled medications eye drops/ointments ear/nose medications subcutaneous injections).
- Enteral feeding (via pump and via gravity).
- Blood Glucose monitoring Ostomy Care
- Adjusting oxygen flow rates
Communication
- Responds appropriately to inquiries relays messages and initiates appropriate action as directed.
- Provides written and verbal reports and records of client care provided and changes observed as directed.
- Establishes/fosters positive interactions and relationships with /clients families and other members of the healthcare team.
- Reports and records occurrences per program policies.
- Submits completed timesheets and other documentation as required
Quality Improvement
- Participate in quality improvement activities as requested.
- Participate in meetings teams assigned.
- Perform in a manner that reflects the values of trust compassion and exceptional service in all interactions with patients/clients/family members of the healthcare team and the public.
Education
- Minimum Grade 10 education Manitoba standards required.
- Successful completion of a recognized Health Care Aide course required.
Experience
- Recent and related patient and/or client care experience preferred.
Other:
A) Knowledge of:
- Information and/or training will be provided within the probation period for the following:
- Personal Health Information Act (PHIA) Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS) and Principles of Routine Practices (Universal Precautions).
- Regional and Program policies and procedures.
- Roles and responsibilities of members of the healthcare team.

- Position involves extensive physical activity such as lifting and bending.
- Must be in good physical and mental health.
- May be exposed to infectious diseases blood and body fluids toxic materials noise allergens (i.e. residual smoke pets and or/pet dander) physical and emotional stress.
- May encounter aggressive and/or agitated clients/visitors/staff.
- Will include travel between clients with unpredictable driving/walking conditions or potential inclement weather.
- May encounter home environments that could have congested spaces uneven surfaces (both inside and outside the home environment).
- Ability to adapt to changes in scheduling on short notice required.
- This position is also subject to TB Immunization or Tuberculin testing as per WRHA policy.
- An understanding of and ability to work within the frameworks of client-centred care self-determination strength-based approach and trauma informed care
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to form relationships with community members including a proven ability to communicate appropriate professional boundaries

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge of Indigenous History and Colonial History and its impact on the reality of Indigenous people in Winnipeg.
- Knowledge of TRC Calls to Action MMIWG Call to Justice and UNDRIP
- Indigenous language skills are considered an asset
- Knowledge of community resources available throughout Manitoba
- Knowledge of addictions mental health diagnoses and co-occurring disorders
- Knowledge and ability to adhere to confidentiality standards and legislation
- Ability to manage assess and work with challenging behaviours
- Ability to work independently under pressure in a team or independent setting
- Ability to effectively resolve and cope with conflict and/or crisis situations
- Strong collaboration skills both with team members and with external partners

Conditions of Employment
- Ability to meet to the physical demands required for the role including being on your feet for long period of time and cleaning duties (bending reaching pushing/pulling crouching)
- Exposure to biohazards including but not limited to blood bodily fluids and syringes
- Ability to work with individuals who use substances and/or experience mental health issues
- Ability to provide support in high intensity incidents including but not limited to medical emergencies and aggressive individuals
- Welcome working in environment where Indigenous ceremonies and practices are actively taking place including Smudging
- Ability to work with individuals who use substances and/or experience mental health issues
- Comfortable conducting participant in community including encampments hotels public housing etc.
- Comfortable with providing transport for community members in company vehicle
- Ability to occasionally flex hours to meet participant needs
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Clear Vulnerable Sector Search and a Clear Adult Abuse Registry Check are required. A previous criminal record does not automatically disqualify candidates. We are open to discussing your respective circumstances.
