Job Summary

Heavy Equipment Repair Technician

Ottawa

$32-$40/hr


Our client is seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Repair Technician to inspect diagnose maintain and repair a variety of construction and aerial equipment.

This is a hands-on shop-based position suited to someone with strong mechanical knowledge solid troubleshooting abilities and experience working with diesel hydraulic electrical and mechanical systems. The successful candidate will help ensure all equipment is safe reliable and ready for customer use.

Responsibilities include:

  • Diagnose and repair construction aerial and compact equipment
  • Service diesel-powered hydraulic electrical and mechanical systems
  • Troubleshoot equipment such as skid steers compact excavators aerial lifts and towable units
  • Complete equipment inspections preventative maintenance adjustments and repairs
  • Ensure all serviced equipment meets company quality and safety standards
  • Follow established inspection checklists and repair procedures
  • Read and interpret owners manuals service documentation wiring diagrams and hydraulic schematics
  • Operate and test equipment to confirm proper performance and safe operation
  • Identify required repairs replacement parts and appropriate service procedures
  • Provide technical guidance and support to junior service technicians
  • Assist with evaluating equipment condition and determining whether equipment should be repaired replaced or removed from service
  • Maintain strong product knowledge including equipment features operating requirements and safety procedures
  • Communicate professionally with customers and respond to concerns when required
  • Complete all service paperwork and computerized maintenance records accurately
  • Maintain parts inventory and equipment documentation within the companys management system
  • Follow all workplace safety policies standard operating procedures and legislative requirements
  • Wear required personal protective equipment and report unsafe conditions immediately
  • Maintain an organized clean and safe work area


Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum three years of experience repairing heavy equipment construction equipment agricultural equipment material-handling equipment or similar machinery
  • Heavy equipment technician certification or related trade qualification is considered an asset
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines hydraulic systems electrical systems and mechanical components
  • Experience working with compact construction or aerial equipment is preferred
  • Ability to read technical manuals wiring diagrams and hydraulic schematics
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision
  • Valid provincial drivers license with a clean drivers abstract
  • Ability to safely lift and carry up to 50 pounds on a regular basis
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
  • Action-oriented and able to work efficiently in a fast-paced service environment
  • Comfortable using computers tablets and electronic service-management systems
  • Must be able to safely wear all required personal protective equipment
