Health & Safety Coordinator

Job Responsibilities:
Wage Range: 65 to 75K annually
Job is to fill an existing vacancy
- Coordinate the responsibilities for improving the quality of work life for all employees with respect to environmental ergonomic and health and safety programs
- Coordinate accident/incident investigations and provide effective follow-up for corrective actions
- Conduct monthly workplace inspections and ensures compliance with all legal requirements
- Function as a resource to the Joint Health and Safety Committee and coordinate follow-up actions to committees recommendations; prepare post circulate minutes
- Respond to plant safety concerns and provides counseling for hazard recognition
- Work collaboratively with HR team to support business needs on various H&S environmental and ergonomic matters
- Ensure H&S Communication boards and electronic outlets are kept up-to-date and relevant
- Participate in new employee orientation presenting H&S section
- Prepare and present H&S slides in monthly Employee Meetings
- Update H&S environmental and ergonomic procedures instructions and forms; ensure control and availability for use in a timely manner
- Perform review of H&S documentation (policies WINs forms) at prescribed intervals
- Facilitate the Ergonomic Program
- Arrange track and log internal and external Occupational H&S training for employees ensuring renewals are attained on-time (i.e. WHMIS Lock Out TDG etc.)
- Conduct with various H&S environmental and ergonomic audits/inspections and make recommendations for improvements
- Liaise with Corporate H&S personnel providing divisional data and updates as needed
- Ensure all Corporate and Legislative audits submissions and updates are issued on-time and accurately
- Liaise with other departments (e.g. Maintenance) to ensure safety compliance on new equipment
- Maintain First Aid and PPE inventory; order/distribute supplies as needed
- Lead the divisions Heat Stress process (calculate and post shop Humidex Readings; order and stock for heat stress relief etc.)
- Manage the on-site contractor safety process and ensure requirements are up to date; Ensure contractors/visitors receive Division Entry Safety protocols prior to visiting division
- Assist with and/or coordinate the divisions Wellness Program as needed
- Oversee the divisions Accident Investigation process ensuring proper record keeping follow up and closure
- Administration of claims management (WSIB RTW programs) along with completing all required WSIB forms in a timely manner and conduct physical demands analysis when required
- Main point of contact for employee annual hearing testing and distribution of results
- Coordinate on-site Flu Shot process when applicable
- Assist with noise and air sampling as required
- Under the direction of the HR Manager:
- Complete health and safety risk assessments for all machine and all tasks in the facility
- Complete hazardous chemical inventory and assessments
- Assist with H&S assessments (risk assessments ergonomics etc.)
- Review all lock out tag out postings to ensure compliance to company policy and replace/update where required
- Review company H&S policies and procedures and recommend appropriate updates
- As a member of the HR department assist with social events or incentive promotional programs
Education:
- Minimum completion of Grade 12 diploma
- College/University designation in Occupational or Public Health & Safety
- Joint Health and Safety Certified Member Certification
- First Aid and CPR Certified
Experience:
- One to two years experience working in a Health & Safety role preferably in a manufacturing environment
- Internal Auditing experience an asset
Skills:
- Thorough knowledge of Ontarios Occupational Health and Safety Act regulations codes and industry standards Strong Microsoft Office skills (i.e. Word Excel PowerPoint FORMS TEAMS and Outlook)
- Familiarity with HSELinx Sphera SharePoint an asset
- Good knowledge of infectious disease protocols in manufacturing
- Good internal auditing knowledge and abilities
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills including ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization
- Strong presentation skills with ability to effectively communicate to large groups
- Strong project management abilities
