About FNTI (First Nations Technical Institute)

FNTI is an Indigenous-owned and governed post-secondary institution dedicated to serving Indigenous learners. Established in 1985 FNTI has graduated over 4000 students through certificate diploma and degree programs delivered in partnership with Ontarios colleges and universities.

As a First Nation-mandated not-for-profit and registered charitable organization accredited by the Indigenous Advanced Education and Skills Council (IAESC) FNTI delivers a range of post-secondary programming grounded in Indigenous knowledge and community connection. Through its community-driven and intensive delivery model FNTI enables learners to remain connected to their families and communities while pursuing meaningful educational and career pathways.

Since the Indigenous Institute Act 2017 FNTI has advanced the development of independently accredited degree programs created by Indigenous people for Indigenous people. Programming is delivered from its main campus in Tyendinaga on the Bay of Quinte as well as virtually.

Position Summary

To support the expansion of the Aviation program with the addition of the Rotary Wing stream a contract Faculty member is required to deliver the Health and Wellness curriculum across both the Rotary and Fixed Wing programs. This role ensures instructional continuity academic alignment and the strict integration of FNTIs cultural framework.

Scope of Instructional Delivery

• Course Load: In-person delivery of eight (8) courses distributed over two (2) semesters.
• Instructional Hours: Delivery of sixty-five (65) hours of active instructional time per semester.
• Cohort Management: Preparation delivery and grading tailored for four (4) distinct student cohorts each semester.
• Operational Alignment: Attendance at weekly meetings with the Dean and Academic Faculty to maintain program standards and continuity.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare instruct and deliver courses in a cultural framework while adhering to FNTIs braided healing with learning approach
• Incorporate Indigenous knowledges ways of knowing/being and Indigenous worldview and ensure quality assurance while planning and developing appropriate lessons teachings and practices for classroom facilitation/conversations and methodologies to address the learning outcomes
• Provide academic and cultural supports to learners while evaluating learner

progress/achievement

• Support all learning outcomes (vocational course and Indigenous) and design appropriate teaching methodologies for meeting those learning outcomes
• Support the strategic priorities of the institute while adhering to the Values Mission and Vision Statement.
• Provide support and mentorship to learners outside of the scheduled class times as required
• Facilitate space for inclusion of medicines and traditional healing practices to our learners during each course
• Collaborate with the Cultural Advisor to provide ceremonies traditional teachings that are appropriate to meeting the Indigenous learning outcomes and ensure the cultural framework is followed (opening and closings smudging circles drumming and singing and cultural practices)
• Ensure Indigenous Pedagogy and Andragogy practices are implemented and Adult Learning Principles are followed in the classroom wherever possible
• Attend training seminars and meetings are required

Qualifications

• Relevant education with experience preferably in an Indigenous educational environment or a combination of education training and experience which FNTI deems to be equivalent.
• Demonstrated experience in adult education curriculum development and instructional delivery within an Indigenous context.
• Deep foundational knowledge of Indigenous historical contexts traditional healing practices and community-based social work.

• Excellent organizational communication and problem-solving skills.

Conditions of Employment

• Willing and able to travel occasionally and work overtime as required.
