Health and Safety Site Representative
Job Summary
AECOM is seeking a Health and Safety Site Representative to support a major hydroelectric infrastructure project in the Fredericton region. The successful candidate will be responsible for promoting and maintaining a strong health and safety culture throughout all phases of project execution ensuring compliance with applicable regulations client requirements and project-specific safety standards.
Working closely with project management construction teams contractors and joint venture partners the Health and Safety Site Representative will play a key role in supporting safe work practices and fostering continuous improvement in health and safety performance.
The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
- Conduct regular site inspections audits and observations to verify compliance with project safety requirements applicable legislation and company policies.
- Promote a proactive health and safety culture through daily engagement with project personnel and contractors.
- Identify hazards assess risks and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
- Monitor compliance with safe work procedures permits personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements and regulatory obligations before work begins.
- Participate in incident injury near-miss and environmental event investigations including root cause analysis and corrective action follow-up.
- Assist in the development implementation and continuous improvement of project-specific health and safety plans procedures and programs.
- Make recommendations to management for incident prevention and safety program activities.
- Monitor the effectiveness of safety programs and procedures.
- Facilitate or participate in toolbox talks safety meetings orientations and awareness campaigns and maintain a strong field presence.
- Provide guidance and coaching to supervisors contractors and workers on safe work practices and hazard mitigation.
- Participate in resolving workplace refusals and work stoppages.
- Maintain accurate safety records inspection reports incident documentation and project statistics.
- Support project management in achieving health and safety objectives and key performance indicators.
- Collaborate with client representatives regulatory agencies and project stakeholders as required.
Qualifications :
Minimum Requirements:
- Diploma or certificate in Occupational Health and Safety Environmental Health and Safety Construction Safety or a related discipline.
- Minimum 4 years of experience as a HSE representative.
- Experience supporting health and safety programs on construction industrial infrastructure energy or heavy civil projects.
- Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation regulations and industry best practices.
- Experience conducting safety inspections audits and incident investigations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word Excel and Outlook.
- Valid drivers license and ability to travel to and from the project site.
Preferred Qualifications:
- National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or equivalent designation.
- 10 years of experience as a site HSE representative on major construction projects
- Experience supporting large infrastructure hydroelectric energy industrial or heavy civil construction projects.
- Knowledge of New Brunswick occupational health and safety legislation.
- Strong communication leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary project environment.
Additional Information :
Project Location
The position is based in the Fredericton region in support of a major hydroelectric infrastructure project. The project site is located approximately 20 km from Fredericton.
Work Arrangement
The position may be filled on either a local relocation or rotational basis depending on candidate availability.
Preference will be given to local candidates first then to those available for full-time relocation to the Fredericton area. For rotational assignments the preferred schedule is 4 weeks in Fredericton / 1 week working remotely or with a minimum rotation of 3 weeks in Fredericton / 1 week working remotely.
