BASIC FUNCTION:
The Group Leader Electrical Services is responsible for the overall effectiveness of the Electrical Services Group through the management of its human financial and operational resources. The Group is responsible for the safe reliable and compliant operation maintenance and engineering support of TRIUMFs electrical infrastructure and site fire alarm systems.
As a discipline Group Leader the incumbent ensures that all engineering work performed by the Group complies with applicable legislation codes standards TRIUMF policies and procedures including TRIUMFs Professional Practice Management Plan (PPMP). The position establishes operational plans with measurable contributions toward departmental objectives typically with a one-year or longer time frame and is accountable for achieving results that impact the department and broader organization.
This is a management position the incumbent will be responsible for leading directing and reviewing the work of a team consisting primarily of emerging to expert-level engineers technologists and electricians. The role requires strong leadership communication and technical expertise to ensure the successful delivery of operational maintenance and engineering objectives.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
The position reports to the Head of Engineering Services. The incumbent will work closely with Engineering Services groups the Project Management Office Accelerator Operations Facilities Safety and other departments to ensure the successful delivery of engineering services and operational support. Key relationships include:
- Direct leadership and coordination of the Electrical Services Group.
- Collaboration with project managers and project teams to support capital projects and infrastructure upgrades.
- Liaison with internal stakeholders regarding electrical engineering policies standards practices and procedures.
- Coordination with utility providers consultants contractors vendors and regulatory authorities as required.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The incumbent is responsible for the leadership planning and management of the Electrical Services Group including:
- Establishing operational plans and objectives aligned with departmental priorities and strategic goals.
- May have budget accountability and responsibility for managing elements of the Groups operating and maintenance budgets.
- Preparing and administering annual operating plans maintenance plans budgets and resource forecasts.
- Ensuring that engineering work complies with applicable legislation regulations codes standards and TRIUMF policies and procedures.
- Providing engineering oversight and support for capital projects infrastructure upgrades and operational activities.
- Managing or overseeing the site fire alarm system and associated engineering activities.
- Supporting electrical safety programs and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and safe work practices.
- Responsible for making moderate to significant improvements to processes systems and work practices to enhance departmental effectiveness efficiency and reliability.
- Maintaining appropriate engineering operational maintenance and regulatory records.
- Supporting development of engineering standards procedures training programs and best practices.
- Promoting a culture of safety quality continuous improvement accountability and professional excellence.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Directly manages a team consisting primarily of emerging to expert-level engineers technologists and electricians.
Responsibilities include:
- Leading directing and reviewing the work of team members.
- Assigning work and establishing priorities for the team.
- Managing employee performance and development.
- Hiring promotion recommendations discipline and performance assessment of direct reports.
- Coordinating and overseeing the work of contractors consultants and external service providers.
- Providing leadership coaching mentoring and technical guidance to staff.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage work teams processes and projects within a complex technical environment.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Advanced knowledge of electrical engineering principles electrical infrastructure systems and electrical safety practices.
- Advanced knowledge of applicable codes regulations standards and professional engineering requirements including the Canadian Electrical Code and relevant British Columbia regulations.
- Experience managing budgets operational plans and resource allocation.
- Demonstrated ability to drive continuous improvement and implement changes that enhance departmental performance.
- Strong technical writing presentation and reporting skills.
- Proficiency with engineering analysis design and project management tools relevant to your discipline.
- Commitment to safety engineering quality professional practice and operational excellence.
NUCLEAR ENERGY WORKER:
The incumbent will be required to complete the TRIUMF in-house radiation safety training course and be designated as a TRIUMF Nuclear Energy Worker.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent engineering discipline from an accredited institution.
- Registration as a Professional Engineer (.) or eligibility for registration with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC).
- 8 to 12 years of progressively responsible engineering experience including management or leadership experience of an equivalent scope and complexity.
- Demonstrated experience leading and managing technical teams projects processes and operational activities.
- Experience in electrical infrastructure industrial facilities utilities research facilities or similar complex operating environments is considered an asset.
Applicants must be legally able to work in Canada on a permanent basis (Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident).
