Purpose:
We are currently recruiting for a Graduate Mechanical CAD Technologist. Our team includes world class experts and dynamic go-getters. This is a full-time position based in Vancouver British Columbia.
The Graduate Mechanical CAD Technologist role is part of the Worley Graduate Development Rotational Program. The program is designed to accelerate the growth of high-potential early career professionals through structured hands-on experience across engineering and project delivery project services and field or construction environments.
Over two years and two structured rotations the graduate will build practical capability in mechanical drafting 3D modelling plant layout and design documentation. Working under the guidance of experienced designers engineers and mentors the graduate will translate engineering concepts calculations sketches and markups into accurate coordinated and constructible design deliverables.
The role is intended for a graduate with a strong CAD foundation who is curious detail-oriented and motivated to develop a long-term career in mechanical and plant design within the mining minerals and metals sector and other project-based industries.
Responsibilities:
- Support mechanical and plant design activities from study and concept development through detailed design construction support and handover.
- Create and revise 2D drawings and 3D models from engineering sketches design criteria calculations vendor information laser scans redlines and technical direction.
- Prepare mechanical equipment layouts general arrangements plans elevations sections details schedules and other discipline deliverables.
- Assist with plant layout development including equipment arrangement access maintenance clearances material movement and interfaces with piping structural electrical and civil disciplines.
- Apply company project client and regulatory drafting standards including drawing presentation layers naming conventions dimensions annotations revision control and document numbering.
- Incorporate interdisciplinary review comments checkprints and engineering markups accurately and maintain clear records of revisions.
- Participate in model reviews and design reviews identify clashes or inconsistencies and work with the project team to resolve coordination issues.
- Perform self-checks and support checking activities by verifying dimensions tags notes references drawing consistency and alignment between models and issued documents.
- Assist with quantity take-offs equipment lists drawing registers document preparation and other design-related project controls.
- Collaborate with engineers designers project services suppliers construction personnel and field teams to understand design intent and project priorities.
- Participate in site visits field verification construction support and commissioning activities when required following all site and safety requirements.
- Identify technical issues or risks within assigned work propose practical solutions and escalate questions early.
- Apply and promote health safety environmental and quality requirements in all design and field activities.
- Complete structured learning mentorship and regular development reviews while demonstrating adaptability accountability and a proactive approach to learning.
What you will bring:
Technical and Industry Experience:
- Academic or project experience producing technical drawings and 3D models for mechanical industrial manufacturing building services or plant environments.
- Eligibility for registration or progression toward a relevant technologist or technician designation where applicable.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
Technical capability
- Foundational proficiency in AutoCAD and experience with at least one 3D design or modelling platform such as Revit SolidWorks Autodesk Plant 3D or an equivalent application.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering sketches markups technical drawings specifications and vendor information.
- Understanding of orthographic projection sections details dimensioning scales drawing conventions and document revision practices.
- Awareness of mechanical equipment plant layout maintainability constructability and interdisciplinary design interfaces.
- Competence with Microsoft 365 applications including Word Excel PowerPoint Outlook and Teams.
- Exposure to model coordination visualization or review tools such as Navisworks is an asset.
- Exposure to point clouds reality capture data-centric design systems or engineering document management systems is an asset.

Education Qualifications Accreditation Training:
Required:
- Diploma associate certificate or equivalent post-secondary qualification in Mechanical Engineering Technology Mechanical Drafting CAD Technology Plant Design or a closely related discipline from a recognized institution.
For applicants based in the province of British Columbia the salary range is $58556 to $80422
Application of the pay band: Variation in salary is determined by factors such as the candidates qualifications relevant years of experience geographic location internal pay equity and prevailing market conditions for the specific role.
