The Opportunity
Our Strategy & Business Planning team is seeking a Gas Market Analyst to support the commercial and strategic analysis of natural gas utilization within the electric power generation sector for North America.
Reporting to the Manager Gas Market Analysis this role serves as a key analytical resource responsible for evaluating natural gas market fundamentals power generation fuel requirements market opportunities and asset performance. The successful candidate will leverage market intelligence forecasting methodologies and advanced analytics to support business planning commercial strategy and long-term portfolio optimization.
This position works closely with Commercial Management Power Analysis and Gas Supply teams to provide actionable insights that influence out TC Gas Outlook potential investment decisions and maximize asset value.
What Youll Do
- Analyze natural gas consumption patterns and fuel requirements across the North American power sector.
- Develop and maintain natural gas demand supply and pricing forecasts to support commercial and long-term decision-making.
- Evaluate power market fundamentals including generation trends fuel switching economics capacity developments and market supply-demand balances.
- Perform scenario and sensitivity analyses related to natural gas prices electricity market conditions generation dispatch asset performance and market risks.
- Assess the impact of market regulatory environmental and policy developments on power generation economics and commercial strategies.
- Build and maintain analytical models that support fuel planning generation forecasting and portfolio optimization activities.
- Monitor market activity and emerging trends within North American natural gas and power markets.
- Develop dashboards management reports and executive presentations that communicate key market insights and business implications.
- Partner with commercial and operational stakeholders to evaluate business opportunities and support strategic initiatives.
- Identify and implement process improvements reporting automation and data management enhancements to improve analytical efficiency and decision quality.
- Provide recommendations to leadership based on quantitative analysis market intelligence and commercial considerations.
Minimum Qualifications
- University degree in Economics Commerce Business Finance Statistics Engineering Mathematics Energy Management or a related discipline.
- 10 years of progressively responsible experience in energy analytics market analysis commercial analysis business strategy or related functions.
- Advanced analytical quantitative and problem-solving capabilities.
- Demonstrated experience developing forecasts economic models and business insights from large and complex datasets.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel Power BI and data analytics tools.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills including experience presenting findings and recommendations to leadership.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and operate independently in a dynamic business environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in natural gas power generation energy trading utilities midstream or energy infrastructure.
- Knowledge of North American natural gas markets supply-demand fundamentals and pipeline systems.
- Understanding of power markets generation economics dispatch dynamics and energy storage technologies.
- Experience performing market forecasting fundamental analysis and scenario modeling.
- Knowledge of North American power markets.
- Experience using forecasting models statistical tools or energy market analytics platforms.
- Familiarity with business intelligence automation and data visualization technologies.
