Description

Reporting to the Senior Manager Fleet Engineering the Fleet Engineer will help shape and deliver Purolators transition to a safer smarter and more sustainable ground fleet. Working with Fleet Engineering EPMO Regional Operations OEMs and other partners this role leads the assessment planning testing and deployment of electric vehicles charging infrastructure and emerging fleet technologies across Canada.

The successful candidate will apply the Right Vehicle Right Route principle to match vehicle capability with route cargo facility lifecycle and financial requirements; develop business cases and analytical tools; support commissioning training and change adoption; and use fleet data to improve safety reliability utilization and cost

Responsibilities

This role will support and be a key member of the Fleet team responsible for Purolator Fleets strategic and tactical electrification priorities such as:

  • Deploy current and future electric charging solutions for all types of Purolator electric vehicles to meet corporate greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction targets.
  • Lead scenario modeling and strategic fleet planning to optimize vehicle deployment ensuring the right vehicle is assigned to the right route while evaluating operational capacity lifecycle and financial impacts to inform deployment and investment decisions.
  • Act as the Fleet lead at multiple terminals driving the facility changes required to support the electrification of the Purolator Fleet. Provide charging solutions that minimize the impact on our customers and make the transition as transparent as possible.
  • Lead end-to-end fleet technology assessment and adoption from market research and technology scouting through evaluation business-case development pilot testing and deployment ensuring solutions align with operational requirements strategic priorities and financial objectives.
  • Provide change leadership and apply an understanding of project management to the sourcing delivery and activation of electrical infrastructure across Canada.
  • Support our Regional Fleet Managers and Technicians with the training processes tools and facility changes required to support the electrification of the Purolator Fleet.
  • Analyze data to perform predictive analytics leading to opportunities for improvement.
  • Maintain industry involvement focused on electric charging infrastructure through associations publications newsletters conferences and extensive networking.
  • Work closely with OEM suppliers to enhance current specifications and design new safety and productivity features with a focus on maintenance intervals and repair times.
  • Initiate and develop tracking tools to measure project accountability results and timely execution.
  • Design develop maintain and support analytical tools by using fleet information from different sources such as Telematics GIS and SAP-TM.
Education
  • Engineering degree preferably in mechanical electrical or environmental engineering
Experience
  • 25 years of industry experience in the automotive electrical or a related industry.
  • Experience deploying and maintaining electrical infrastructure and electric vehicle charging systems.
  • Ability to interpret engineering and electrical drawings and apply relevant electrical codes and standards.
  • Knowledge of vehicles automotive components and safety regulations and industrial electrical equipment.
  • Strong technical and problem-solving skills to diagnose failures determine root causes and implement solutions that enhance fleet reliability safety and performance.
  • Demonstrated analytical mindset in process development and management leveraging Lean Six Sigma (LSS) and continuous improvement methodologies to develop optimize and standardize processes
  • Advanced spreadsheet and database skills for data analysis and KPI development.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills supported by strong Microsoft Office proficiency.
  • Strong financial acumen and the ability to prepare business cases for executive leadership.
  • Experience with project delivery methodologies and project management tools.

Language Requirement: Proficiency in English is required for this position due to the frequent communications that must be conducted in English with various stakeholders. This requirement is justified by the nature of the responsibilities and operational needs.
