FIRST Robotics Competition Coach
Job Summary
Requirements:
- Attends/supervises/organizes FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) practices scrimmages and competitions;
- Recruits and selects students for participation in FRC following district guidelines;
- Registers team on FIRST website and directs student/parent registration;
- Applies for FRC grants;
- Manages team budget in cooperation with building secretary district STEM Coach and district Business Office;
- Directs the purchase of team supplies;
- Attends school and district events to promote FRC;
- Communicates with team members parents and others regarding FRC news/information;
- Exhibits gracious professionalism;
- Organizes and participates in recruitment at middle and elementary school events My Waterloo Days parade Iowa State Fair and additional opportunities as they are presented and fit the requirements for the team mission;
- Determining team structure and working through the mission and business statements to teach the team what it takes to be a successful team;
- Arranges training for students in CAD and Programming so that does not have to happen during the build season;
- Determining the outreach activities and building sponsor collaboration with current sponsor and soliciting new/future sponsors for the team.
- Must be available for practice outside of regular school hours.
- A typical FRC practice schedule is described below.
BUILD SEASON PRACTICE SCHEDULE (January- February)
First 2 weeks of build season: M/T/W/TH 4-8pm Saturdays 10am-6pm
Last 5 weeks of build season: M/T/W/TH 4-8pm Saturdays 10am-6pm Sundays 1pm-6pm
END OF BUILD SEASON THROUGH IOWA REGIONAL (February-March)
M/T/W/TH 4-8pm Saturdays 10am-6pm occasional Sundays as work is needed to complete awards submissions and preparation for regional activities
OFF SEASON ACTIVITIES (April - December)
Varies - estimated 1 day per week 5-7pm and additional time as needed for events and outreach preparation
