The Opportunity

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer the Finance Manager is responsible for supporting the effective management of Nova Mutuals financial operations. This role ensures timely accurate and compliant financial reporting; supports strong internal controls; and provides financial analysis that enables sound business decisions.

The Finance Manager will oversee core accounting activities including general ledger management reconciliations accruals accounts receivable and payable investment accounting reinsurance accounting payroll oversight and regulatory reporting. The role also provides leadership and day-to-day support to the Financial Operations Lead and Payroll Specialist.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and review monthly quarterly and annual financial reports statements supporting schedules accruals reconciliations and variance analysis.

• Manage the general ledger and chart of accounts ensuring accurate accounting records and timely resolution of discrepancies.

• Support the preparation of annual budgets expense allocations financial forecasts and analysis of actual results against budget.

• Apply IFRS principles ensuring financial transactions are accounted for appropriately.

• Lead or support regulatory reporting requirements including quarterly P&C1 reporting tax filings and other finance-related compliance submissions.

• Oversee accounts receivable accounts payable and broker and agent reconciliations.

• Coordinate reinsurance accounting treaty reporting and submissions to Farm Mutual Reinsurance; support annual reinsurance retention analyses.

• Oversee investment accounting activities and related financial analysis.

• Support the year-end audit process and work closely with external auditors to prepare schedules respond to requests and facilitate timely completion.

• Review and approve payrolls complete payroll reconciliations and provide payroll back-up support as required.

• Supervise coach and support the Financial Operations Lead and Payroll Specialist including performance support and development.

• Provide timely financial information analysis and practical recommendations to leaders across the organization to support efficiency cost management and informed decision-making.

What You Need

• Post secondary education in Accounting or Business

• CPA designation.

• 7-10 years of progressive finance or accounting experience preferably in the property and casualty insurance industry.

• Previous supervisory or team-lead experience is preferred.

• Experience with or a strong understanding of IFRS accounting.

• Demonstrated experience in financial reporting reconciliations general ledger management internal controls audit support and regulatory reporting.

• Knowledge of reinsurance and investment accounting is an asset.

• Experience with C/IBS is an asset.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.

• Strong analytical detail orientation organizational problem-solving and judgment skills and a commitment to continuous improvement.

• The expected base salary range for this position is $88000 - $132000. Depending on relevant experience skills qualifications market conditions and business needs base compensation may vary within the range.
