Position Summary
The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and detailed cost estimates for projects. This includes evaluating the full scope of work such as labour equipment materials subcontractor services and purchased components. The role ensures all tender submissions are completed accurately and delivered within required deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
Estimating and Tendering
Review and interpret construction drawings specifications and tender documents to understand project scope and requirements.
Perform detailed quantity take-offs from drawings and contract documents.
Develop comprehensive cost estimates including labour materials equipment and subcontractor inputs.
Solicit evaluate and incorporate subcontractor and supplier quotations into estimates.
Prepare and submit complete tender packages within specified deadlines.
Conduct bid reviews including analysis of subcontractor proposals and internal cost assumptions.
Ensure the accuracy and completeness of all submitted tenders.
Prepare documentation required for bid security and insurance requirements.
Maintain organized records and correspondence for all active bids and proposals.
Follow up with clients regarding submitted tenders and proposals.
Cost Analysis and Project Support
Analyze and price potential scope changes change orders and claims.
Monitor ongoing projects and provide cost tracking forecasting and financial evaluations.
Offer technical and estimating support to field and project teams as needed.
Assist in developing preliminary project schedules for transition to project execution teams.
Collaboration Process Improvement and Leadership
Communicate effectively with field personnel project teams and clients.
Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of estimating processes procedures and standards.
Participate in additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience
Degree in Civil Engineering or diploma in Civil Engineering Technology (or a related field) preferred.
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in construction estimating or a related role.
Experience working with industry-standard estimating or bidding software.
Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings specifications and contract documents.
Familiarity with municipal transportation or infrastructure construction projects is an asset.
Knowledge of relevant construction standards and specifications is preferred.
