Planning Grants and Engineering Services (PGES) Division is looking for an Environmental Intern. Reporting to the Director Environmental Regulation the Environmental Intern will support environmental specialists in the development of specifications/guidance documents to ensure that departmental activities related to construction and maintenance are conducted in compliance with relevant federal/provincial legislation. The position is the technical support for regulator issues for the delivery of highway and water infrastructure projects.

The responsibilities of this role include:

• Support the Environmental Standards Specialist in the development of specifications/guidance documents.
• Work with the environmental specialists and provide regulatory support during all stages of the project.
• Assist in the review of technical reports and environmental site assessments.
• Develop scope of environmental work and assess cost effective remediation/mitigation alternatives.
• Support all staff in the digitization of environmental and aggregates records.
• Identify through the review of project reports environmental issues that will require permits such as DFO permitting Navigable waters and wetland compensation issues.
• Review and provide advice for Environmental Management Plans
• Review and provide advice on policies under development.
