This multidisciplinary team leads the delivery of civil and track worksleveragingglobalexpertiseto introduce innovative solutions across the GO Transit network.
What Youll Do:
Under the direction of the EnvironmentalCompliance Officer:
Conduct routine and event-based environmental inspections and monitoring of construction activities to verify compliance with Environmental Management Planspermitconditions approved construction procedures and environmental protection measures.
Assess construction activities for potential impacts to soil surface water groundwater vegetation wildlife air quality and nearby communities and evaluate the effectiveness of mitigation measures.
Identifyenvironmental deficiencies incidents potential risks and instances of non-compliance; document findings verify containment and corrective measures and follow up to ensure issues are resolved within requiredtimeframes.
Monitor dewatering and discharge activities to ensure that water isproperly managed treated where necessary and releasedin accordance withapplicable requirements.
Conduct inspections during changing weather and site conditions including heavy rainfall snowmelt high-watereventsand other conditions that may increase environmental risk.
Coordinate with construction supervisors forepersonssubcontractorsand site personnel to communicate environmental requirements and promote a strong environmental culture.
Participate in pre-construction meetings toolbox talks environmental awarenesssessionsand site-specific training asrequired.
Maintain completeaccurate and organized records of all environmental monitoring and inspection activities including daily logs photographs deficiencies corrective actions permits approvals correspondence laboratory results waste documentation and monitoring incident and non-compliance reports.
Assistwith environmental audits compliance reviews regulatory inspections and meetings with project representatives consultantsagenciesand other stakeholders.
Support the Environmental Manager and Environmental Compliance Officer with environmental reporting performancetrackingand continuous improvement initiatives.
Maintain current knowledge of applicable environmental legislation permits approvals projectrequirementsand environmental best management practices.
Be willing and available to work occasional night shifts weekends and other non-standard hours to support construction activities respond to environmental incidents and complete inspections whenrequired.
Travel regularly to project sites throughout the project corridor using a corporate vehicle; mustpossessa valid Class G driverslicence be comfortableoperatinga pickup truck and have access to suitable overnight parking for a company vehicle.
The main work location for this position is one or more construction sites.
WhatYoullBring:
Diploma or a bachelor or advanced degree in an environmental related discipline (ecology/biology/environmental science).
Minimum of3years of demonstrated work experience in all aspects of environmental monitoring and mitigation during roadway construction or construction of transit infrastructure specifically with respect to work in and around watercourses and in the application and correction of erosion and sedimentation control measures reporting spills and the containment of effluent and dust during construction.
Experience with projects in Ontarioofa similar scope and complexity to the Project.
Certification as a Canadian Certified Inspector of Sediment and Erosion Control (CANCISEC) or have provenproficiencyinobserving inspecting and reporting on the implementation of Erosion and Sediment Control Plans.
Valid Class G drivers license
Expected compensation for this role is between $80000.00-100000.00annually. Base salaries aredeterminedaccording to multiple factors including skillsexperienceand potential impact on the role.
