Who are we looking for

GHD is looking for aJunior Environmental Engineerto join our Waterloo office. The Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) team in Waterloo supports Clients with waste air and noise and occupational hygiene regulatory matters. Clients include but are not limited to various industrial manufacturing facilities waste management facilities and property developers.

Working with an energetic and high performing team this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:

• Waste Management
• Climate Change and Carbon Management
• Greenhouse Gas Verifications
• Noise Assessments
• Occupational hygiene

Air Quality and Noise Responsibilities

• Preparation of Emission Summary and Dispersion Modelling Reports for ECA Applications and EASR Registrations
• Air dispersion modelling using AERMOD SCREEN3 and other atmospheric dispersion models
• Coordinate and implement field work to conduct air and noise emission source inventories and noise measurements
• Conduct noise modeling using Cadna A and STAMSON software
• Preparation of Acoustic Assessment Reports and Acoustic Audits
• Assist with the design of emission controls
• Assist with the design of noise abatement such as silencers barriers and wall treatment
• Estimation of GHG emissions and/or verification of greenhouse gas reports
• Greenhouse has verifications for regulatory and voluntary programs
• Support GHDs Advisory group with carbon reduction and climate change management plans
• Aid senior staff in technical research
• Work with GHDs corporate Air & Noise Group consisting of over 80 engineers and scientists across North America.
• Support GHDs Occupational Hygienists and assist with field surveys for a variety of air contaminants noise indoor air quality assessments and designated substance assessments including abatement oversight
• Prepare reports for the National Pollutant Release Inventory (NPRI) and Ontario Toxic Reduction Act (TRA)
• This position will require significant field work and travel which includes working extended hours.

What you will bring to the Team

• Recent or upcoming graduate from a Bachelor or Masters Degree program of Engineering in Chemical Environmental Civil or Mechanical Engineering programs
• Previous co-op experience or relevant work experience preferred however not a firm requirement
• Ability to prepare proposals in plain language addressing client requirements
• Attention to detail along with strong organizational skills
• Ability to complete work under tight deadlines when required
• Works well independently as well as a part of a team
• Experience and understanding of any of the following regulations and associated guidance documents would be an asset: Ontario Regulation 419 Air Quality Ontario Regulation 347 Waste Management Greenhouse Gas Reporting Programs (provincial and federal); Transportation of Dangerous Goods
• Willingness to travel/work on-site as a member of a team or independently completing field work in support of GHDs Environmental Compliance business
• Willingness to work long hours including weekends and holidays
• Travel more than 75% of the time.
• No aversion to heights along with the ability to work in high noise areas
• Written and verbal communication skills are essential to this position. Strong emphasis will be placed on your ability to communicate and engage in technical conversation.
• Strong Microsoft Office skills: Word Excel PowerPoint Project and Outlook
• Previous field experience is considered an asset
• Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) member
• Valid G drivers license and access to a vehicle
• Must have a valid Canadian passport

The salary for this position is $67500. The posted salary represents the expected hiring range for GHD locations in its major city centres. Ranges may vary for positions in other locations. At GHD base salary is determined by your skills experience qualifications and work location.
