Position Summary
The Electrical Engineer is responsible for the design development testing and support of electrical systems and subsystems used in medical devices. Working as part of a multidisciplinary product development team this role contributes to the design of analog digital and power electronics printed circuit boards (PCBs) cable assemblies and related electrical components from concept through commercialization.
The incumbent develops and maintains electrical design documentation supports prototype and production builds collaborates with suppliers and manufacturing partners and participates in verification validation and troubleshooting activities. The Electrical Engineer also contributes to product risk management electrical safety and EMC compliance testing and the investigation and resolution of product issues identified during internal testing or in the field.
This role plays a key part in ensuring product quality reliability and regulatory compliance by maintaining design documentation supporting quality system requirements and contributing to the development of safe and effective medical technologies that improve patient outcomes.
Duties:
- Using the product requirement as inputs support design for electrical circuits and subsystems of the companys medical products including power circuits analog circuits and digital circuits
- Design printed circuit boards and cable assemblies support cable routing management and layout
- Document the electrical designs in the form of schematics board layout files bills of materials and other documents
- Work with suppliers to manufacture the companys products
- Participate in the creation and execution of test protocols
- Create manufacturing test instructions as well as test jigs
- Investigate issues identified in internal testing and at customer sites; participate in the resolution of the issues and deployment of the solutions
- Participate in the certification of the companys product to electrical safety standards (e.g. IEC 60601-1) and electromagnetic compatibility standards (IEC)
- Participate in risk management activities
- Create and maintain documentation required to demonstrate compliance with the companys QMS and all applicable medical device regulations
- Adhere to and enhance the Quality Management System (QMS) including developing and maintaining documentation and training other staff as appropriate
Qualifications :
Education:
- or in electrical or electronics engineering or similar degree
- Masters degree in electrical or electronics engineering considered an asset
Experience:
- 4 years experience in electrical system design including PCB schematic and layout
- Experience in circuit testing and diagnostic methods managing designs for production (DFM obsolescence review)
- Experience working within a Quality Management System is an asset
- Exposure to mechanical engineering and integrating fixtures and components is an asset
- Experience with embedded firmware ideally C/C is an asset
Skills:
- Knowledge of digital and analog circuit design
- Knowledge of power distribution circuits (power supplies isolation transformers etc.)
- Knowledge of electrical design and board layout software (OrCAD Altium or other)
- General knowledge of electrical safety standards (IEC 60601-1) electromagnetic compatibility concepts and standards
- Excellent troubleshooting skills
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Independent motivation and drive to achieve results ability to work with minimal supervision
- Knowledge of embedded software development (in C or other low-level language) an asset
- Experience with STM32 platform an asset
- Knowledge of IEC 62304 software standard and regulations governing medical device software an asset
- Experience with 3D CAD software cable management is an asset
