We are seeking an experienced and inspiring Director Health Safety & Environment (HSE) to lead the strategic direction of our HSE programs across the Carlson Group. About the Role

Reporting to the Executive Leadership Team the Director HSE will provide strategic leadership and oversight for health safety and environmental initiatives across the Carlson Group. You will partner closely with senior leaders project teams and field personnel to establish best-in-class standards that support our people our projects and our clients.

The successful candidate will be a trusted advisor an influential leader and a champion of continuous improvement who can effectively bridge strategy and execution.

What Youll Do

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop implement and continuously enhance the Carlson Group HSE Management System.
  • Lead the companys health safety and environmental strategy across all operating companies and project locations.
  • Foster a proactive people-focused safety culture that promotes accountability engagement and continuous improvement.
  • Serve as a key advisor to executive leadership on HSE performance risks and emerging industry trends.

Operational Excellence & Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable health safety and environmental legislation regulations permits and company standards.
  • Develop and maintain corporate HSE policies procedures standards and safe work practices.
  • Lead corporate risk management initiatives including hazard identification risk assessments and mitigation strategies.
  • Monitor HSE performance through audits inspections field observations incident trending and KPI reporting.

Incident Prevention & Response

  • Lead investigations of serious incidents and high-potential events.
  • Ensure root causes are identified and corrective actions are effectively implemented.
  • Oversee emergency response planning crisis management processes and business continuity support.

Environmental Stewardship

  • Drive environmental compliance initiatives related to permitting waste management spill prevention emissions and environmental protection.
  • Support sustainable business practices that align with operational and client expectations.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead mentor and develop a team of HSE professionals across multiple business units.
  • Establish training competency development and leadership programs that strengthen organizational capability.
  • Create opportunities for employee engagement through safety observations recognition initiatives and communication programs.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build strong relationships with clients regulatory agencies industry associations and operational leaders.
  • Participate in client audits prequalification processes and strategic HSE discussions.
  • Support project teams through planning execution and continuous improvement opportunities.

What Youll Bring

Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in Occupational Health & Safety Environmental Science Engineering or a related field.
  • Professional designation such as CRSP CSP CHSC CIH . or equivalent is considered a strong asset.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive HSE leadership experience preferably within construction industrial marine heavy civil infrastructure or related sectors.
  • Demonstrated experience leading corporate HSE programs across multiple operations or business units.

Salary: $165000 - $180000 per annum

The actual salary offered to the successful candidate will be determined based on jobrelated factors including relevant experience years of experience qualifications internal equity and Carlson Construction Groups compensation policy.
