Project Overview
A large public sector organization is seeking multiple Digital Architects to support service innovation program review and digital transformation initiatives. Resources will work within a centralized digital delivery environment that partners with various departments to modernize services and improve citizen outcomes.
Digital Architects will be embedded within cross-functional agile teams collaborating on activities such as user research backlog refinement sprint planning and iterative delivery. The goal is to assess current services identify opportunities for improvement and deliver modern efficient and scalable digital solutions.
Role Overview
The Digital Architect provides strategic and technical leadership in designing and delivering digital services. This role is responsible for defining solution architecture ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture vision and guiding teams in building user-centric scalable and secure solutions.
The role requires a balance of strong technical expertise leadership capability and business acumen. The Digital Architect may also contribute to hands-on development when required.
Key Responsibilities
Architecture Leadership
Lead the design and delivery of solution architecture for digital services
Develop architecture aligned with user-centered design and agile methodologies
Analyze existing systems and define target architecture
Provide recommendations prototypes and feasibility assessments
Identify risks impacts and dependencies related to solution design
Delivery & Implementation
Guide teams in iterative and incremental product delivery
Define integration strategies and system interaction patterns
Ensure alignment with technical standards tools and platforms
Review and contribute to code when necessary
Mentor developers and technical team members
Collaboration & Strategy
Work closely with product owners to balance business and technical priorities
Promote reuse of shared components and services
Contribute to enterprise architecture vision and standards
Support development of metrics principles and best practices
Communication & Documentation
Translate technical architecture into clear documentation diagrams and presentations
Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Continuous Improvement
Contribute to evolving architecture practices and standards
Support innovation in tools frameworks and delivery approaches
Work Arrangement
Primarily remote within Canada
Occasional onsite meetings in Alberta with prior notice
Travel and related expenses are not reimbursed
Candidates must provide their own equipment
Must be legally eligible to work within Canada
Security Requirements
Criminal record check may be required
Enhanced security clearance may be required for certain projects
Potential requirement for higher-level clearances (e.g. federal-level)
Final selection subject to security clearance approval
Mandatory Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Computer Science or a related field (or equivalent experience)
5 years of experience as a Software/Digital Architect in enterprise environments
5 years of experience leading cross-functional agile teams
4 years of experience designing large-scale systems integrations and cloud-native solutions
2 years of experience working with UX service design or human-centered design approaches
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
Nice-to-Have Skills
Experience with secure development practices and Zero Trust Architecture
API design and system integration (RESTful services)
CI/CD pipelines automated testing and observability
Legacy system modernization and transformation strategies
Containerization orchestration (e.g. Kubernetes) and Infrastructure-as-Code
Experience with relational and NoSQL databases
Experience in public sector or large enterprise architecture environments
