The Government of Albertas Data Centre of Excellence is seeking a highly skilled Data Analytics Specialist / Data Scientist to support the design and development of advanced analytical data products and services. This role is part of a strategic initiative to strengthen data-driven decision-making across ministries and improve services for Albertans.
You will work within a collaborative team to design build and optimize data models analytics solutions and AI-enabled products aligned with the government bodys Data Strategy.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and support strategic data analytics initiatives across government departments
Design build and deploy data models algorithms and analytical products
Prepare data for predictive and prescriptive analytics
Develop dashboards reports and data visualizations for senior stakeholders
Apply statistical machine learning and data mining techniques to solve complex problems
Collaborate with data engineers analysts and business stakeholders
Translate business needs into analytical solutions and actionable insights
Improve data quality metadata and analytical workflows
Support development of data strategies frameworks and roadmaps
Provide mentorship and technical leadership within the team
Communicate insights clearly to executives and non-technical stakeholders
Ensure alignment with privacy governance and government data standards
Required QualificationsEducation
Bachelors degree in Computer Science Data Science Statistics or related field (or equivalent)
Experience
6 years in Data Analytics or Data Science
6 years building quantitative and statistical models
6 years working with predictive/prescriptive analytics
6 years experience preparing data for modeling (feature engineering cleansing transformation)
2 years building and deploying end-to-end analytical or AI-enabled applications
Strong experience with statistical and data mining techniques
Experience with tools such as Python R SQL or similar languages
Nice to Have
Experience with data linkage de-identification metadata management
Experience working with large government datasets
Experience designing data pipelines or analytics workflows (3 years)
Experience with cloud or big data platforms (e.g. Azure Spark Hadoop)
Strong dashboarding/visualization skills (Power BI Tableau etc.)
Experience translating complex business problems into analytical solutions
Strong client-facing communication and stakeholder engagement skills
