Co-op Engineer Machine Learning and AI Infrastructure

Huawei Canada has an immediate co-op opening for an Engineer.

About the team:

Founded in 2012 the Noahs Ark lab has evolved into a prominent research organization with notable achievements in academia and industry. The labs mission focuses on advancing artificial intelligence and related fields to benefit the company and society. Driven by impactful long-term projects the aim is to enhance state-of-the-art research while integrating innovations into the companys products and services including Next Generation Foundation Model Agentic Models Physical AI and Reinforcement Learning.

About the job:

• Develop and maintain software tools and infrastructure for machine learning and AI workflows.
  Build backend services APIs automation tools and system integrations.

• Support large-scale experiment execution evaluation and data processing workflows.

• Debug technical issues and improve system reliability performance and usability.

• Work with researchers and engineers to understand requirements and translate them into practical software solutions.

• Communicate with internal users collect feedback and occasionally provide technical support for developed tools.

• Write clean maintainable and well-tested code.

The total target annual compensation for this position ranges from $58000 to $104000 depending on education experience and demonstrated expertise.

About the ideal candidate:

• Currently pursuing a Bachelors degree in Computer Science Software Engineering Computer Engineering Machine Learning or a related field.

• Strong programming skills preferably in Python.
  Solid software engineering fundamentals including debugging testing Git and working with existing codebases.

• Familiarity with Linux development environments.
  Strong problem-solving skills and ability to learn unfamiliar technologies independently.

• Good communication skills and ability to clarify and understand technical requirements.

• Basic understanding of machine learning and modern AI systems.

• Experience with backend development REST APIs or databases.

• Experience with Docker distributed systems cloud or compute infrastructure

• Familiarity with LLMs AI agents or ML evaluation workflows. Experience with frontend development such as React or TypeScript. Open-source contributions internships or substantial personal software projects.
