CLINICAL ASSOCIATE HEMATOLOGY/ONCOLOGY

The Department of Pediatrics at CHEO University of Ottawa is recruiting a full-time Clinical Assistant within the Division of Hematology/Oncology to fill a 1-year term beginning as soon as the position is filled. This position may be renewable pending funding.

The ideal candidate will be Royal College (Hematology/Oncology) certified or equivalent who can provide inpatient and outpatient clinical services for infants and children with cancer and/or non-malignant hematologic disorders. The candidate will be expected to provide weekend daytime coverage as needed. While English is the language of the health record functionality in French is an asset.

The Department of Pediatrics is affiliated with CHEO the CHEO Research Institute and the University of Ottawa. Together we provide outstanding patient care leading research and quality pediatric medical education. The Department of Pediatrics provides health care to newborns children and youth of the Ottawa area as well as those from Eastern Ontario Western Quebec Nunavut and parts of Northern Ontario (population of approximately 1.8 million). The Department of Pediatrics has 18 distinct divisions which includes Hematology/Oncology.

The Division of Hematology/Oncology provides clinical care for general hematology/oncology as well as specialized care for children and adolescents with leukemia lymphoma brain tumors solid tumors hemoglobinopathies bleeding and thrombotic disorders bone marrow failure syndromes and conditions that require post-stem cell and/or cellular therapy care.

On a rotating basis the Clinical Assistant Physician will provide the following types of care under supervision:

• Inpatient Hematology/Oncology service coverage
• Outpatient Hematology/Oncology service
• Procedure room coverage for lumbar punctures with intrathecal chemotherapy and bone marrow evaluations
• Weekend clinical coverage depending on divisional needs

Clinical Assistants joining our team will have a unique opportunity to participate in the development and implementation of our emerging divisional programs through multidisciplinary collaboration clinical innovation and quality improvement. CHEO has an active and accredited Pediatric Hematology/Oncology residency training program. The division is also involved in education for pediatric residents and medical students.
