Clinic Nurse, Neonatal Followup Clinic

Job Summary:

Provides and coordinates outpatient nursing activities such as patient assessment patient and family teaching clinic procedures and health promotion activities consistent with established policies standards of practice and philosophy at British Columbias Womens Hospital.

A first in Canada: minimum Nurse to Patient Ratios (mNPRs) are being introduced in B.C.! Learn more at and documents patient health care information on patients and their families including updating charts and obtaining information from community providers regarding current treatment and complete and accurate records of nursing observation interventions teaching and evaluation of nursing complete and accurate records of telephone communications as well.
and coordinates with nursing staff medical staff allied health care staff and community agencies to plan patient care and assessments in the the delivery of care in the clinic by making adjustments in patient assignments/schedules. Utilizes and implements appropriate nursing skills/techniques in the care of the pediatric ambulatory patient.
and Collaborates with other members of the health care team in facilitating patient care reviews and conferences to plan implement and evaluate patient care in the clinic setting and community setting
and coordinates assessment and post assessment referrals responds to patient family and health care members enquiries and liaises with other support diagnostic services/ community health services in coordinating patient referrals.
patients family members and other caregivers by providing and explaining information demonstrating procedures and the use of equipment and evaluating the overall effectiveness of the selected teaching methods.
in the orientation and continuing education of nursing and other allied healthcare staff and students by role modelling and preceptoring.
as a clinical resource/support person to patients and families nursing and health care professionals as required.

consultation with other team members plans and develops educational resources such as pamphlets patient teaching videos for patient and family health education.
information as a member of the health care team in patient care reviews and conferences.
input to the Program Director or delegate regarding policies procedures and operational requirements by observing service needs and providing spoken or written suggestions which address patient and family needs and promote effective use of resources.
a safe environment for patients families and staff by following established emergency procedures and safety practices and procedures.
the implementation and evaluation of nursing research and quality improvement activities as directed by participating in the Neonatal Program working groups and nursing committees and by keeping current through attendance at educational and in-service opportunities.
in clinical research including data collection completing research study forms and preparing and presenting research papers posters at local national and international multidisciplinary health care conferences.
other professionally related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education Training and Experience

Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses & Midwives (BCCNM).
Two years recent related level three neonatal nursingexperience including one year of general paediatric experience ambulatory care experience or community health service experience preferred or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Current CPR certification.
Current computer knowledge with proficiency in word processing and knowledge of programs including Excel and Power Point preferred.

Ability to function as an active member of a multidisciplinary team and function as a nursing resource.
