Child and Youth Care Worker 611 Down Temporary Part Time (#2026-59)

ABOUT THE JOB:

The Child and Youth Care Worker supports a young individual through a highly structured personalized program in a home environment. They create and maintain a safe supportive learning environment that builds on the youths strengths abilities and needs to foster independence confidence and quality of life. The Care Worker develops meaningful relationships with the youth encourages personal growth and responds confidently and compassionately to challenging situations and behaviours using effective individualized interventions.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Providing opportunities for the youth to acquire and maintain life skills necessary for independent living
• Providing guidance in behavior management and educating on adapting behavior and coping techniques
• De-escalating crisis situations using best-practices interventions
• Attending case management meetings
• Providing communication and support to family members community professionals and the care team
• Meal planning and preparation
• Maintaining the home including housekeeping laundry yard work etc.
• Completing documentation and reporting
• Participating in youth-focused recreational and other activities

EDUCATION TRAINING and EXPERIENCE:

• Diploma in Human or Social services or other related field
• Experience working with a care team to support youth with diverse needs.
• Or a combination of education training and experience.

SKILLS KNOWLEDGE and ABILITIES:

Demonstrated knowledge and strong abilities to:

• Be physically active and involved in supporting the child/youth in various youth-focused activities such as biking swimming walking hiking etc.
• Build healthy trusting relationships with all involved parties including the youth colleagues supervisors community professionals care teams and family members
• Support and interact effectively with the children/youth who have experienced trauma
• Respond appropriately to challenging behaviors crisis situations and aggression
• Apply attachment theory and cognitive behavioral therapy guidelines and principles
• Provide life skills support and development interventions and guidance to youth
• Develop and implement youth-focused schedules plans and goal-setting methods
• Work effectively independently and as a strong contributing member of a team
• Follow directions and implement strong critical and analytical thinking in the work applying appropriate policies and procedures
• Taking initiative for program requirements and following through on same
• Effective conflict management
• Provide clear and accurate written documentation
• Run and maintain a home including shopping cleaning yard work cooking budgeting and meal planning.
• Cook healthy nutritional meals
• Assess personal safety of staff and youth(s) and respond appropriately to crisis situations
• Provide medication administration as per agency policy and procedures

REQUIREMENTS

• Valid Class 5 Drivers license and safe driving record
• Access to reliable transportation to report to the scheduled shifts on time. Access to a vehicle is an asset.
• Consent to Criminal Record and Background Check by the MCFD Hub.
• This position requires Union membership and 1.85% union dues are deducted from each pay.
• Following trainings are required and provided to the successful candidate free of charge. Existing certification is an asset: Emergency First Aid with CPR-C Mandt-RCT Safe Talk Safe Food Handling Medication Management MCFD Privacy Abuse and Neglect Awareness training Anti-Bullying and Harassment.
• Physical requirements of the job include supporting individuals with recreational activities and household duties including hiking biking yard work snow removal general cleaning duties etc.

STATUS: Temporary Part-time

TERM: 3 months or until the return of the incumbent

HOURS of WORK: 8 hours per week

SCHEDULE: Saturday and Sunday 2:30 PM-6:30 PM

REPORTS TO: 611 Program Coordinator

COMPENSATION: $27.54 - $31.61 (Grid 11 as per collective agreement)
