Assistant, Spanish Seminar

Under the general direction of the permanent Modern Languages (Spanish) faculty member and the Department Head of Modern Languages the Spanish Seminar Assistant is responsible for providing language seminars and academic support for students enrolled in Spanish language courses.

The Assistant conducts seminars according to material covered in class and assists students in developing their communicative competence in Spanish including speaking listening reading writing and cultural and intercultural communication skills. The Assistant works closely with the instructor to support student success and assist with assessment activities and projects as required.

The Assistant develops and maintains learning materials for both in-person and online learning environments and supports student engagement through the effective use of educational technologies and digital learning platforms.

• Diploma in Spanish Hispanic Studies Applied Linguistics Language Education Education or a closely related field is required.
• Native or near-native proficiency in Spanish including speaking listening reading and writing skills is required.
• Minimum two (2) years work experience teaching tutoring or otherwise working in Spanish-language education is required.
• Experience working with post-secondary students is preferred.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to mentor support and provide constructive feedback to students effectively and with empathy.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Familiarity with learning management systems online learning tools and educational technologies.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a diverse and inclusive educational environment.
