Advisor, Centre for Accessibility Services

The Advisor Centre for Accessibility Services (CAS) is responsible for ensuring academic accommodations are provided to students with disabilities in accordance with Ministry of Advanced Education articulated guidelines and the Duty to Accommodate.

The incumbent interviews current and prospective students to assess barriers and determines and implements appropriate academic accommodations. The Advisor maintains detailed and accurate records through an online case management platform according to ethical standards and Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIPOP) regulations.

The incumbent supports students in developing their self-advocacy skills in communicating with UFV instructors faculty and staff as needed. The Advisor CAS manages student crisis situations and provides appropriate referrals to internal and external support services.

• Bachelors degree in relevant field (e.g. Adult Education Social Work) or a related discipline (e.g. Psychology Sociology Communications).
• Three (3) years experience working with adults with a disability in an educational setting.
• A teaching credential or certification related to the aforementioned degree is considered an asset.
• Computer literacy and familiarity with adaptive computer software and MS Office Suite is required.
• Demonstrated ability to navigate sensitive situations and conversations with empathy and tact.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• High level of discretion in the management of confidential information.
